I was actually surprised by how low the averages are. In my experience IT people get paid a bit more. Thought the average would be closer to say R22000 or R23000.

I'm sure figures are down from last year? I remember reading something similar last year and thinking how much money other IT people were earning. Now after this article I'm starting to think there is not much money any more.

Are we talking CTC here?

Cuz even if you earn R23k pm you're only going to get out around 16 after all deductions...

Depends what you do I guess...The figures are right to me based on what i earn!

Haha ... I earn less than an average unskilled worker.

Can somebody find out which companies those people work for, I'd love to go work there - since I'm in a skilled position ... (well, I know I'm being ripped off)

lol, same here, i earn HALF of the unskilled bracket! And have some nice certs! :) Those figures are probably for the software dev industry, def not the networking one!

I think it depends also which city you work. Sure Joburg pays the highest, followed by CT and Durbs.

Are these figures before or after deduction cause if after deduction then am way underpaid ...

In the Information Systems, Electronics and Telecoms Technologies market under 25’s earn an average of R 11 300 per month while the 46 to 50 year olds were the highest earners at an average of R 29 230 per month.

I think this is the only sector where the survey got it like 80% right...I`m sure top earners with degrees get a lot more...
