How much tax do you pay?

Products the poor are likely to buy, are VAT free.

Including their taxi fee. Probably the only non-material expense/income that doesn't get double taxed.

Now to summarize (according to some of these posts):
The poor are off just fine as they don't pay any taxes.
The rich are getting richer as they are evading taxes.
Which the leaves the middle class to carry the country through.
:(

Totally, and unfortunately the people that emigrate are usually the ones paying a lot of the taxes too.

By your statement, greater emigration per year should lead to less funds in the tax coffers. This has not been the case. Collected taxes have increased, even though the exodus from our shores has been increasing. This means that those who emigrate contribute less than they think. :D

Nope (in a way), I think it is the people that are left are paying more (ie: via fuel) plus most of the loop holes have been filled.

From the people that have left, they would have contributed hugely towards getting their tax clearance to be able to leave the country.

plus
1)SARS has increased the tax net by quite a bit, people who were not paying are now paying
2)SA markets have been in a bull phase for a number of years, has contributed significantly to the tax coffers!
IMO

Are we now admitting that SARS has become a more efficient institution over the years through the efforts of Trevor and Pravin? :D

Not so, the process in which they collect tax has improved vastly. SARS is a tightly run ship. Screws have been tightened and loopholes closed; but I suspect there will be an apex in the improvement of collection. Then it's down to improved economic conditions and methods of increasing tax baskets to keep the surplus up.

The slowing growth of the economy and the current CPIX will see to a less rosy tax collection.

All things being equal, yes, but things aren't equal. As others have pointed out collection have been improved, loopholes closed etc, which means even if those who emigrated weren't paying much initially, which isn't clear anyway, if they were still here they'd likely be paying more and contributing more now and the tax base would be even greater.
