Choccy will ask R350 if it's normal chocolate.

If you want Lindt's, it'll be more expensive...

by the looks of it most of you have not really bought cakes in the last 5 years!!!
i would say 750 would be a fair price but thinking i would want to pay about 600
but guessing it would prob cost more like 850. Bought my little one a 2 tier bday
cake that cost about 1500 which i thought was crazy but the wife said it was
to expected! sigh! alll that just for some cake!

That cake does not even look properly decorated. For that price you expect something far more superior and professional.

I would agree with you but try and find a baker that will sell you something like that for less, I know you
can org one from one of those aunties that bake at home but a shop bought cake like that will cost at least
that.

haha those guys hit the big time with the tv show

they make good looking cakes ..have not tasted them yet cause cant trust if there is alcohol or not in them

but yeah can imagine prices ...i think the cupcakes are r20 each

but theres a nice cake place in rylands that makes lovely cakes for around r250

Then I will buy from an aunty at home tbh...

There is a price I'm prepared to pay for an item, and if a bakery will charge me beyond that price, I won't use them... and the bakeries that are price gouging like that will soon find the aunties at home taking away this very lucrative (clearly) sector of the market from them.

but the aunties at home wont be able to keep uo with the demand like bakeries can and the bakeries have much more overheads

but that still wont justify paying double for a cake the aunty can bake

A single aunty won't be able to match a single bakery no. But I know personally at least 4 aunties that are baking at home to supplement hubbies income now, so I reckon there are more aunties doing it than bakeries.. so I would assume 10 aunties per bakery and you have the demand covered, at a lower price.

As for the Bakeries having much more overheads, yes, but they get spread out over a LARGE volume of stuff, plus their raw material input costs should be considerably lower. All in I would expect a Bakery to be able to produce a cake for cheaper than an aunty.

And another thing - Choccy's cakes are always fresh.

I dunno how long the bakery's cake(s) (and that includes Pick 'n Pay) was standing... and sometimes they taste downright gross.
