Made one similar to this a while ago, except it was white choc ....... R310 with pickup.

These established bakery's that charge obscene prices are only able to because there are weirdos enough to pay their prices, lol. I've seen it and thought :wtf:

Wedding cake prices

does include a hot lady jumping out the centre
WOW, I have not seen the cake under debate and this is a very belated post. Just need to tell, that South Africa offers the cheapest wedding cakes in the world. A three tier beautifully decorated cake takes quite a few days from start to finish (AFTER the planning of it) - it works out to very little per hour. For such a cake people sometimes pay as little as R2 500, whereas in the states (not to mention England) cakes in Rand terms are sold for not a cent below R10 000. You have NO idea how much work and skill goes into it, especially when one has to source freerange eggs, the best butter in the country, tons of marshmallows for making fondant that's edible and not to mention the structuring that goes into it. Nowadays we need an engineer to help us get it perfect. It's massively expensive to bail out such a creation, but not very worth it for the baker. Do you still have a pic of that cake under debate? just interested... Thank you - am not trying to be facetious. Tis all fact. When I make chocolate ganache I use Lindt - I refuse to downgrade the baking process to save money. I need incentive to have to stand for hours and hours and redo and pipe and make new batches, and take a painpill afterwards.

Oh oops, I went to look at the cake in question and yip, I feel you! that is a terrible cake - even 2 years later that's far too high a price. Honestly, it's a cake my granny used to make very quickly for our afternoon tea. Sorry, am right with you.
