Supposedly, it is recommended that you replace your mattress every 6-10 years, depending on a few factors. I don't think I've ever followed this guideline, but recently we visited one of the many bed shops in the neighbourhood and were a little surprised at the high price of some mattresses. We were actually just looking for a mattress topper, but the staff tried to make bigger sales (of course). Our mattress isn't quite at its end of life yet, so we just went with the original plan and bought what we went for.

Do you actually replace your mattress(es) every 6-10 years as recommended?

Rules don't change. Whenever SO decides that it is time to buy new xyz, that is the time to buy xyz. King size mattresses start at 15K now. Last week price.

I haven't replaced any yet, but then again I can't remember the last time I stayed in one place for more than 3 years, so all my current mattresses have only had a couple of years of use.

Around 20 years. I only buy Cloud Nine though.

Que? You sleep on it for a third of your life.
Yes, but it still feels like a waste of money. It's a static thing that you mostly use when you're unconscious. I don't really like any furniture, really, considering the price you need to pay for something to sit on, or lie on.

Yep... 15K is pretty steep for a sponge-y thing that doesn't really do much.
It’s a sponge thingy that facilitates sleep, a biological state Mother Nature deemed so valuable that risking you being eaten by a Python while you do it made sense…

You do know the best scientific explanation for sleep is: because you feel sleepy?

I get that. Just feels like a waste as most things that cost upwards of R10k do more than simply keeping your body off the floor while you sleep.

Also, there aren't many pythons in my neighborhood :p

I heard a saying "Dont skimp on the things that separate you from the ground"... So shoes and beds. (And possibly chairs depending how you view it).

It doesnt change the fact that spending 15-25k on a bed hurts though...

I mean, I sleep with a python every night. To be fair, my wife worries about that more than me though. She's had way too many unsolicited crackers at dawn
