How sugar tax will create future taxpayers

The fact is, we all know, that if a sugar food costs a bit more, 90% of us (especially those like me who LIKE their sweet foods) are just going to pay the extra.

So the real reason behind is a financial one. No one is taxing me to make me become thin. Thats my decision to make when I realize i'm fattening myself up and making myself unhealthy. Until then, 10c or whatever more for a Coke is negligible to me - and lining someone's pockets nicely in govt.

Agree with the scare mongering, it's the freaking pseudo science hippies like Food Babe and David Avocado Wolff that have gotten the world in a tizzy about bad foods thanks to their idiotic understanding of science.
Especially when it comes to sugar, which is supposed to be as addictive as hard drugs, cause diabetes and is poisonous. Which it isn't any of those things but hey.

Come to think of it, FOOD is addictive. We should prohibit ALL consumption of food.

A healthy food is whatever the corporate sponsors of the time say it is.

Before it was the grain industry.
Now with Banting doing the hype rounds, it is the meat industry.

If they want people to be healthy just do the following:
Increase income taxes on everyone, but allow for those who are in a healthy range of BMI to get a break from the increase.
This makes it worth everyone's while to lose weight.
Just as ignorant. Bmi is useless as a measure of body composition

A sugar tax should be seen as part of the serious intervention needed to ensure the taxpayer of today is around to pay their taxes and boost the SA economy of tomorrow

Wonder if he came up with that one while eating his cornflakes.

Yup, that would be taxing some really healthy people that have higher body mass due to muscle. It's hard to tax a person on some arbitary figures that might possibly cause issues, do you look at BP, Sugar levels, Cholestrol, BMI, white cell count? What makes a person healthy? What makes them a possible problem?

Lets look at this from a probability side then.

How many people with a BMI of above 30 are in fact bodybuilders and not just obese? I would guess and say it is the minority of people.

You would be able to increase the accuracy by using chest circumference if you really wanted to.
