How Telkom plans to turn itself around

So we'll all get worse service by the end of it.

I have to say, I have been fairly impressed with Telkom over the last 2 years

Too little, too late, and the wrong approach.

What peers are they referring to with regards to a larger workforce?
Cellular providers dont need to work on last mile if that is their point of reference.

Which is a nice advantage for the cellular providers. They are still their peers though

I agree as well. I would think service is going to get worse before they get better, but what they are doing is cleaning up the organisation. This can only be a good thing.

They are cleaning out the efficient and good workers through their racist retrenchment policies, and purging the skilled staff. This will result in a Telkom ship which is left without a rudder, unable to steer anywhere. But the useless and incompetent people will still be there turning the wheel, even if there is no result.

Problem is every time Telkom does a turnaround they do a 360 and continue walking the same path as before ..

How do you know they are letting go of the efficient staff? The report I read was that a lot of the staff was over the age of 50,and had been there for many many years.

Yes, those would be the experienced skilled staff I am talking about. Those type of people are not easily replaced.

If they really want to turn around the company they should stop closing faults and actually fix their problems.

If a fault has been logged they should monitor customer satisfaction with the resolution. Eg. They should install a device that can log and monitor the quality of an ADSL line to see if it is actually faulty and/or usuable.

I had to log 5 faults over 10 weeks for my ADSL, it was traced back to a cable fault (that was damaged by a contractor doing new installations). Every time they simply closed the fault and claimed the problem was fixed. After they closed the issue the 5th time I decided to vote with my feet. Cancelled my ADSL and Voice line. That would be R400+R186 * 12 months = R7032 less for them in a year.

And Afrihost refused to refund me for the downtime (line with them) so I have given them the boot too.

Time that people vote with their feet & wallets.

Really really really would if I could... and I probably speak for most of us here. Until Fibre is a reality, we're stuck on copper if we can't go the WISP route; Mobile is still (way) too expensive.

I just want my faults to be resolved in reasonable time and my calls to 10210 to be answered in reasonable time as well. Whenever Telkom talks about cost cutting all i see is more problems for us end users

So much for their turnaround strategy.

Telkom called me a week ago with an offer to install fibre at my house. I currently have adsl with them. Scheduled an installation date and even received an sms message with the date. The sms also stated that it's a full day appointment, so I had to take leave from work. Nobody showed up in the morning, so I called 10210. They said the installation was assigned to a technician and that he is on his way. Nobody showed up. I called 10210 again the afternoon, this time they told me to call 10213. Tried this as well, but eventually gave up after holding for 45min.

Guess I'll stay with adsl then...
