how to activate data on a Telkom Mobile Sim

Bought a 99c starter pack yesterday...recharged, even bought data bundle...but I am not able to access Telkom Mobile's data network,...called their helpline, all they want is to load settings...when it seems to me there is no apn provisioned on the sim..can anyone assist me, or should I just toss the sim and get a MTN one?
 
The sim is probably fine.

Did you buy a Telkom-network-only data or all-network data bundle?
Also is your sim registering on a Telkom tower or MTN tower?
 
I was going to give Telkom Mobile a spin..and see how it performs...-while after 5 calls to their call centre , and still no joy getting my data working....no one can see if data service is actually active on the sim/hlr...and manually inputting settings.....?? I have used MTN/Vodacom/CellC sims in this device and all their settings were updated automatically....nee dankie, solution: buying an MTN sim...

check that data roaming is enabled on your phone. If you dont have TM coverage it will try to roam... (on my phone its under data use - settings button - data roaming.)

also check the APN - add APN (any name) set APN to "internet", leave everything else as is.

tried all that,...the sim has not been provisioned for data, hence you can not setup settings...and their helpline, has no clue as to how to provision...anyways, just popped in an CellC sim, and all is well....I recall setting up data back in the days when GPRS was launched....that process was way easier then this schlep! Dankie, maar nee dankie Telkom Mobile...
 
I don't remember having issues like that. When I put my sim into my phone, got an SMS saying it detects I am on a new phone, and sent settings to my phone automagically which configured it.

Good luck with MTN, I would far rather get the TM SIM working that have to deal with MTN. Hang in there and get the TM SIM working
 
I got myself the R49 sim that gives you 200mb data per month for a year.It works just fine.I think you can also load airtime onto it. Would that help?
