i.e. The guy who goes round to peoples houses and installs the antenna etc.

Is it possible for someone to set up a company doing this? Or is it exclusively done by the provider's and/or their contractors?

Any info you have...

Geeze, I wonder if I've strayed into some sort of "forbidden zone" here? :D

Been 24 hours and not 1 response.

Anyway from what I've been able to find out on my own, plus a little common sense, it looks like it's only possible for companies that win a contract with a provider, correct me if I'm wrong.

I did find an employment position installing WiMax on offer though, still I was thinking more along the lines of starting up a company geared towards it.

I know that Vodacom and MWeb contracted this out to various small IT support type companies during their trials. Can't hurt to contact them and try become one of their installers.

BUT PLS - get a clue about RF and WiMAX first. Had a number of very friendly guys at my place doing tests... who didn't even know the basics!

Surprised to hear this - where do you stay - how are they able to install if they do not know the basics ??

I stay near Northcliff in JHB....

And to be fair... they knew enough to get the modem online and connected. But they were given the wrong type of antenna and cable (IMO). They pointed it in the wrong direction and didn't really install it terribly well. Had to bite my tongue a few times when they were explaining to me what they were doing, why they were doing it and what they thought the modem was doing...

Do you know the name of the person who installed it - if you do not want to put it here please send me Private mail - I read that often - and was it a Telkom Installer or one of the other vendors.

What was wrong with the cable and the antenna - and if it was all wrong how did they get it to work ??
