Multiple warnings to Windows users not to download the latest update for Windows 10 have been posted online.

The Windows 10 October 2018 update is reportedly deleting users’ personal files after it is installed, and Microsoft has pulled the update from its download site.

Alternatively, if you MUST install it, make sure anything worth keeping isn't on C:\ (apparently the only drive affected). That also includes desktop items. So stick those holiday pics, nudes, whatever on a different drive letter, or external backup.

But when? When I shut my laptop down after 5pm today, I got the 'update and shutdown' option. Is this the dodgy update?

Lol! Started up with some trepidation this morning but all seems ok (touch wood).

I was lucky. I did my update the day the update was available and all my files are still there. The Documents and Pictures and such folders are set to be on my D: drive however.

Apparently apps can be affected, too. But yeah, moving everything you want to keep to a different drive is probably wise any way. My C: is an SSD for Windows, apps and a couple of games.
