I'm honestly flabbergasted by the customer service levels at MTN.
Also their MTNSP Active site, and MTN site is one of the most terrible websites I have had to use since the early 2000's.
Vodacom, I regret to say, was lightyears, LIGHTYEARS ahead, even on prepaid.
Now I'm a paying contract subscriber on MTN and I think it might have been a very dear mistake.

1. How can they not warn you when your not using your bundle anymore?!!! Something should be done about this legally, the government should force auto warnings.
2. HOW HOW HOW is this information not 100%%%% up to date? They damn well know it in real time for billing, why not for showing you?
3. It has been a year since the matter has been brought up, and nothing has changed, even all the media outrage etc.

I think its time to get on the line to 702 and make some public outcry about this, its just not acceptable.

I just want to know how i can check if i am using my data bundle. I phine 808 to load a once of bundle and they said it should be loaded after 2 hours. After about an hour i checked and it showed the bundle. I then started to download stuff and just checked the airtime again. The cost came from my airtime and i figured it was because i used it before the two hours. Now i use the internet and nothing is reflecting on 162. Is the billing of internet data stil broken?

I have to date used all 3 of the major service providers and MTN's service is indeed close to useless. They are mostly friendly and fast but never had any real answers or solutions to any problems or issues raised.

Their current standard response: "sorry, it's a business-rule. We can't do anything for you"

That is sad news. My wife and I have just each signed up for the Galaxy Tab deal @R229 per month. Except for the "when you run out of your bundle" problem, i think it's a good deal.

MTN Scares me.

When I phone 808, the system says as at 14 May I have:

85 SMS
0 SMS
347 SMS
0 DATA ON YOUR BOLT-ON DATA BUNDLE
0 DATA ON YOU 90MIN DATA BUNDLE
R1052.64 AVAILABLE

When I use 162 (14 May), it says:

85 SMS
0 SMS
347 SMS
685.0 MB (DATA BUNDLE)
1000.0 MB (DATA BUNDLE)
R1200.00 (RAND BUNDLE)

I'm a bit confused

I am on an Anytime 200 package.

Can anyone help with these questions:

  • How long does the inclusive monthly airtime value roll over on these contracts?
  • Why does it indicate a time limited data bundle when I have never used a 90-min bolt on data bundle. Ever. Very curious. :wtf:
  • Also, why the fudge do the two systems report such a difference? On the same day?

Edit: Checked MTN Active and it corresponds with 162, so it's probably right....

I went on a MyCall contract to get a 3G modem years ago. The experience was so bad I won't do it again, except maybe for a tablet, when data prices have dropped significantly later in the year. Luckily the network back then was really slow so I didn't have too many unexpected data charges.

@cchaos - user name and password are blank AFAIK.
