How to decide on an uncapped internet pakage?

hi guys,

I've been using Cell C 2gb/month internet for the past 12 months, and now the time has come to register for a new internet option.

I am however very much confused by all the options, especially as many of the details concerning shaping and throttling are pretty well hidden by the ISP's. I have a budget of R800pm, and I'm looking for a connection with sufficient data cap to allow movie and video file downloads and speeds which will allow me to enjoy games as well as PS3 online.

Can somebody please provide me with some options?

I have looked into the Mtn uncapped lite, but the FUP seems a bit harsh after 1 Feb 2012. I have also considered OpenWeb and WebAfrica 1Mbps uncapped options.

No. MTN hasn't said anything about FUP and throttling.
The announcement will be next month.

Maybe it will be something like [optimism]R289 for 10GB then throttle to 1Mbps.
R489 for 20GB then throttle to 1Mbps.

So just wait 21 more days.

Or haven't got ADSL? Apply for the 3 month 1Mbps uncapped trial.

ADSL most reliable when it comes to latency.

I would go with
1.mweb
2.afrihost
3.webafrica , the 1mbs plus adsl line package is very well priced.

But mweb still offers the best uncapped experiance of all isp's.

How exactly does the 3month trail ADSL work? From which ISP is it available, or directly from Telkom?

The 90 days starts from day of inception of activation of your data service. So if you apply on the 31st (last day for applications), and they install and activate on 14 February, your 90 day/3 month threshold starts then, ends 14 of April. New subscribers only.

For the 1st 3 months you'd pay just telephone rental R139 or whatever it is.
you can cancel it, before the 3months

From the telkom website

The trial period start the day the service is installed and will continue for three months.
You don’t have to sign a contract and can continue with the service on a month to month basis after the 3 month trial period.
The monthly subscription after the promotional period will be R658 pm.
If you would like to stop the service, you need to opt-out prior to the three month promotional period come ending. No penalties or charges will be levied.
