How to drain wrong fuel from a car

The garage manager was not available yesterday and the attendant insists he put in petrol.

They will have video footage that you can review. How did you find out it was diesel?

Pour petrol over it to help it burn, I'm sure the rest of the car will have enough accelerant to make the problem go away

Yeah I want to see how far they will be able to fly with that one, since no customer is actually allowed to dispense the fuel themselves and therefore can't be held accountable when they've requested the correct thing.

The number of people I still see pull up to the pump, stick a R100 note out the window whilst checking FB (or whatever amuses them) is astounding.

While I do agree and have said before that everyone should keep an eye on what is being done to their car when filling up, I doubt that that will hold up if someone had to go so far as to lawyer up.

The smell, sudden lack of power and then it just refused to start.

The only way this is sorted is by pulling the tank and draining the whole system and cleaning out the tank.

You should never have driven away from the station until it was sorted... happened to me a few years ago. Drove me nuts to have to wait, and it took about 5 hours...

Smell aside, are you sure the fuel is the issue with your car?

If the tank isn’t completely empty then the diesel sits on top of the petrol doesn’t it?

Then it can he siphoned off. That’s what I believe was done with a work bakkie anyway.

But may have been the other way around with petrol added to a diesel bakkie.

ahh ok- best to contact your insurance, the petrol station should have their own to cover themselves as well

That is decidedly obvious now...

I could never just trust the guys in that respect, I always used to check... thankfully now I use a garage that only supplies Diesel, and the pump I go to only has 50ppm.. so there is no way they can cock it up.
