How to get a fine reduced?

So I got this fine the other, Very expensive, I want it reduced im willing to pay half of it but not the whole fine.

How can I get it reduced?
I don’t know in which area you were fined, but if it was in JHB go to the JHB court in town and go directly to the public prosecutor for traffic fines (they have an office on the second floor). You can tell them your story…they can be very understanding.

I reduced many fines like that when I was a student – well worth the trip if you don’t want to spend the cash.

The law now states that if you are caught at +30kph in a suburban zone, you should actually get arrested... so he's actually lucky.

holy cr@p, you sure ..

no more driving 100 in 60's for me, always thought it was anything over 120 in a 60 and 180 in a 120

crap... I was testing something on a empty 60km 2km straight this yesterday in my car... no other roads intersecting or anything, and a clear view for the full 2km... hopefully there weren't any camera's... :(

Cool I need to go there anyway, Will give it a try!;)

Ok my excuse is I was late for an exam I had to write.
Can that work?
You can mention that, but always first mention your admission of guilt.

Wait for the summons, and then waste 2 days or so by going to the court-house to locate and then speak to the prosecutor before the court case.
I usually go to the public prosecutor when I receive the fine, and if you use tact you'll normally get it reduced.

I have used the "I'm a student and can't afford the fine" story. And it worked. :o
This only carries weight if you're not driving something exotic.

Paid R300.00.:)
I wont do it again though!
So how did you go about it then?

The City of Johannesburg will give motorists a 50% discount on their traffic fines, Johannesburg Metro police spokesman Wayne Minnaar said on Thursday.

The discount is effective from November 1 to January 31 2009.

"The discount applies to all traffic fines received before Friday in the Johannesburg jurisdiction," said Minnaar.

"This is to encourage motorists to comply with the rules of the road so that there will be an even bigger reduction in accidents in this coming festive season."

The option to defend a traffic fine in court will still be open throughout this grace period.

However, Minnaar said those motorists who had been issued with warrants of arrest still had to pay their contempt of court fines, but the traffic fine will still be reduced by half.
