How to get Android Auto in SA

At least this thread is finally getting (some) traction even if it's the "old dogs" replying
Give it another year or 2 and this thread will be exploding now that more cars in SA are coming equipped with AA and CP

Apple maps is a small price to pay for the whole package.
Yeah ag even with my iPhone I used Apple Maps as it supported locking the screen and keeping it odd as only lighting up when necessary which saves a huge amount of battery.

My go to modus operandi when going somewhere new is just to confirm beforehand with Google Maps that it's actually going to the right place.
I'll let you know in the AM. I've just installed it and am downloading my playlists. If it works I can remove Google Music.
Cheers.

The Kia guy told me today that Android Auto doesn't work with all phones and that he couldn't make his S8 work.

I'm going to assume that isn't true and that he just isn't too clued up.

It may very well be that the S8 doesn't play nice with Android Auto. A bit of research (especially in the Google product forums) will reveal a startling amount of manufacturers having issues with AA, sadly.

Tomtom was always my goto app so I've never really been able to fault Apple Maps accuracy.
AA might be locked down, but the bloat are common on Android phones is not. I believe a lot of the issues arise from the manufacturers side of things.
It's my understanding that the Moto Z is a fairly vanilla version of Android.

Let's be honest there should be consistency here. All Android phones ultimately run Android OS as the boot OS. AA is a Google developed system for in car entertainment & navigation. Therefore all makes of Android phones should work with AA.

I see there is an XDA developer app back but needs to be rooted then.

Can you stream Bluetooth audio to your system while being in Android Auto mode?
From the same phone? No, not in my case, at least. I've tried that in the hopes of circumventing my no audio issues with Google play music. Although since GPM 'works' with AA, so once you launch it the head unit automatically switches to AA mode, I have no idea what the system would do if you attempted that with a non-AA compatible app.

Yeah I'm thinking what it I just plugged the phone in to AA and then fired off Apple Music over BT.

Ultimately I guess it would depend more on the head unit.

If you really want to hack it could even try Aux.

All of it's pretty piss poor if you bought a car with the intention of using your device and service or choice.

It's **** like this that will have me going back to piracy because its so much easier.

My Android Auto is working flawlessly (maps, music, answering WhatsApps with voice) on my Xperia Z3C. Cheers to the guys in this thread for instructions to get it downloaded.

It doesn't really surprise me that a Z3c works flawlessly with AA, it's one of the best Android phones in recent years, and is also one of a handful of non-nexus/pixel phones that was eligible for Google developer preview and beta software. It's about as close to a nexus as one could get without actually buying a nexus.

It might work, sorta, but keep in mind that AA completely locks up your phone so changing tunes isn't going to work.

Given up with AA for the time being - it crashed five times before I even left PE this morning.
