It's not that Linux people hate Windows. They just hate the crappy programming that M$ programmers do when trying to write an operation system (hey, you all know it is true...)
So why:
1.) doesn't wireless work properly in ubuntu
2.) games don't work in linux
3.) etc, etc,
I sat with a 65 year old guy today who was trying to troubleshoot problems in the code in a 5 gb program he himself wrote which is used by a quarter of the municipalities in this country for billing rates, water, electricity, etc. Watching him working, I appreciated the difficulty of programming (You can guess - I'm clueless). So I sympathise with anyone trying to make that Sh1! work.

1) Manufactures don't release their specs so developers can't write drivers for them.Not Linux fault. In 8.04 Wireless has improved tremendously.
2)Games do work in Linux, sometimes better than their windows counterparts. However developers don't code for Linux. Not Linux's fault either.

This is not supposed to be a Linux-Windows war thread. But anyways, once again, count the number of errors in Windows versus the number of errors occuring in Linux. Once you can tell me that, I'll talk to you again.
OK - hatchet buried. 
Well, as per teraside's OP, all I can say is that I don't need to get any help with Vista as I have not had any problems with it since sorting out all my initial installation issues over a year ago. Been running like a charm.

Vista has NEVER given me an error, my old HP printer installed with no need of me downloading drivers either.
Linux has never done that (it's always recompile this driver to work for that device...)
Don't use Linux at home, and it will stay that way for a VERY long time.

I have new hardware so problems are expected but I recommend you also visit the forums of your motherboard manufacturer and or forum of hardware that's not compatible with Vista and request driver/bios updates.

Nope it is a Vista "feature" to improve search... superfetch and indexing should be disabled, page file should be fixed not dynamic doing this makes Vista more like XP.

I must say my drives are really quiet now, I have a second drive that does not wake every 30 mins for no reason.

And worse imo. I disable indexing, that's up to wether or not you use the search enough to make it useful. However Superfetch is a great feature for me, it makes most of my daily apps start up much faster that they do on Linux (I actually wonder where people get the rubbish that Linux is so much faster now that I use it) and XP.
It's probably one of the main reasons to use Vista.
I have read that the page file being set higher (to some RAM related amount) is an ancient "tip" that shouldn't be applied to Vista. How is the dynamic setting worse? I've also thought about changing it form the default but I'm not sure myself anymore. EDIT: Read about it in the article you linked, makes sense.
