How to install Windows 10 - A guide

If you're doing a clean install do you just use your existing Windows 7 or 8 key?

EDIT: "Once you upgrade Windows 10 with the free upgrade offer you will be able to clean reinstall Windows 10 on same device any time," Aul said.

Apparently so. If you don't mind, I'll wait for you to confirm that it works before attempting it myself though. :p

Already tried it with a newly enclosed Win 7 Pro key, nothing. Installed Win 7 with the attached key and initiated the Win 10 upgrade.

Just a note, if you are doing an upgrade and have an nvidia card, once the upgrade is finished chances are you will drop back to microsoft basic display until you download and install the windows 10 nvidia drivers, since the windows 7/8 drivers will be disabled and don't seem to be compatible. Otherwise had no issues with the upgrade on the machines I tested on.

Apparently you can clean install from within windows, it then moves your "old windows" to windows.old once you're in the "new windows".

Thanks for the heads-up.

Busy downloading the ISO now, I hope I will be able to do the free upgrade from it on all my machines.

I'm busy downloading the Windows 10 Pro ISO from my MSDN subscription now. Keen to see how painless it is to upgrade, or if I need to do a clean install.

Is anyone else getting incredibly slow speeds with your Windows 10 update via Windows Update?

And in 6 months everyone is back to Windows 7 or 8.1 :D

I'll pass thank you very much.

Why would that happen? I have yet to see a review that isn't full of praise.

My $Windows.~BT is sitting at 5.90GB but Windows update isn't reflecting any available updates.

Using wuauclt.exe. /updatenow doesn't seem to help either. Guess I'm playing the waiting game.
