How to register vehicle without papers

I've just been offered a car without papers because the previous owner lost the papers. So I have to scrap it first then register it as a rebuilt car.... But I'm very scared after reading this forum..... Does anyone have any updated information... And maybe tell me it's now easier to register the car...? Or is it wishful thinking?

Request that the owner gets a duplicate registration paper from the traffic department. If they don't want to do it, walk away.
 
Whatever you do...police clearance before you hand over any cash. And confirm that the seller is in fact the registered owner... a chocolate for the lady behind the counter @ dekra gets you that info.
 
Hi Shawn, I am new to the forum, i read yr article with interest. Mate, i have a rebuild project, an orphan car that has not been in the ENATIS system, i will guess
Is there a way i can get Nissan papers, and make my rebuild become the donor vehicle? The chances of getting an import permit, and NRCS etc is remote, might this work?

Hi all

I have recently purchased a vehicle which was manufactured in 1978 (according to VIN). I was told the vehicle was scrapped but do not have the de-registration papers. These might not exist or be impossible to find. There were a stack of license disks on the vehicle, the most recent one read 1988! After talking to the traffic department over the phone, they cannot find any record of the VIN number on eNaTIS... This makes me believe that the vehicle was scrapped before the eNaTIS era, but at the least it is not on their system. I seek the following advice please:

What procedure should i follow to register this vehicle? I have been on the phone for many hours with authorities receiving different advice. I am trying to avoid a lot of effort in going to SAPS Vehicle Clearance Unit (its far for me) without the correct paperwork. From what I understand I need to get an affidavit, RPI, RPC, datadot, roadworthy, get the vehicle weighed etc. etc. but I am not sure of the sequence to follow. I realise that this process would be a lot easier if the de-registration papers were available, and if the vehicle was on the system, but unfortunately I cannot help this.

Please help!
 
My son gave me the cars papers bit during a house move and illness I lost them
He did notify the Licensing department of trsnsfer of ownership and now O want to put thecar on my name but dont have the papers. He is stubborn and not on good speaking terms with me so he doesnt want to go to the licensing dept and get new ones even tho I am paying for them. The licensing department wont give me the documents. How do I now regisyer the car on my name
 
Tell your son if he does not cooperate you will lay fraud and theft charges.
 
Get a letter from your son giving you permission to get the registration papers on his behalf. Get a copy of his ID. Get the form applying for a copy of the registration papers from the licensing department, fill them out and get your son to sign them. Take all that and some cash back to the licensing department and get a copy of the registration, and then do the transfer.
 
I have a vehicle parked in my yard . it's been there for about 4 years wishe to sell to defray expenses,but no papers licencing department requires I'd and proof of residence.how and what should I do?

So the douche from whom I purchased my car refuses to give me the car's papers now. Is there ANY legal way in which I can have my car registered in my name without the papers? I do have the sale agreement as well as proof of payment. I want to get this done while I'm suing this prick for conning me. I still owe him R3000 but he refuses to show me that the car's papers are still fine and in order. He threatened to have the car scrapped to code 4 if I don't pay, but I refuse to pay without seeing the papers, which I now believe have been destroyed.[/QUOTE]


we have a similar issue where we purchased a messed up car. we purchased this car simply because my husband needs a car for this new job he started. Now this car is just parked in the yard. Can i sell the car without the papers.

There is no legal way of registering it without the papers and the ID copy of the owner. You need those papers more than he needs the R3000, Unless you have plenty of money to spend on lawyers, it would be best if you were to sit down and resolve this amicably, usually people don't just become unreasonable out of the blue, I am sure he would also have interesting stories of his own.

I had the pleasure of working on a SEAT Diesel not too long ago where the previous owner must have replaced the cylinder head at least, along with the injectors and a few other parts which basically converted the car from 110kw PD engine back down to 96kw.

The owner had most of the parts, however he had none of the correct parts I needed to replace the stock charge cooler and the guy thought it would be a good idea to shorted the loom for one of the Oxygen sensors thus making my life difficult.

Upon calling the owner to find why and what was done and to ask for the remaining parts which should have been included in the sale of the vehicle, I was greeted by a an angry, arrogant and rude gentlemen who refused to co-operate with my request for information. Needless to say on collecting the parts a little later that day I was called a whole host colorful things. I eventually just got fed up and socked him in the mouth with a cooler pipe.

Bearing in mind that I had used some of my leave to help my friend out, I really was not in the mood for a guy my age giving me that amount of grief.

I am not even a friggen mechanic, but the previous two mechanics who had assisted the guy screwed him over big time.

It took me about two day of travel and begging. You might also get a copy of the car papers from the license department, especially if you have the sale documents.

Please how did you do it.I have sale agreement . Police clearance they send me licence dip.and they said I must go to court. Still stragling
 
For future reference.

1. Papers first.
2. Money transfer.
3. Take car and drive away.

In that exact order.
 
i have the same problem about the microbus i bought,so the owner give me a ron around about papers.what steps should i take to have it registered in my name?

It's easy enough. But you will need to take the vehicle for a SAPS Clearance. You will also need an affidavit detailing how you obtained the vehicle. In KZN we have a special Affidavit especially for such transactions so enquire at your Registering Authority.

Attach all of these to your RLV forms, include the Sale Agreement. Depending on the set-up in Gauteng all the documents will need to go in to some section for approval. In KZN the approvals section is centralised in Pietermaritzburg although larger RA's such as Durban have an in-house authorisation section.

Not sure what time frame it takes up there either but once the transaction has been authorised you will be able to register and licence the vehicle on your name.

PM me if you have any other queries... although KZN is my specialty lol.

PS. He cannot have the vehicle scrapped in the event that it was sold. Well we refuse to do that here in any event. In the event of a sale the sale must be recorded and not a de-registration.

I want to know i sold me car to a car dealership but i give him the car pappers and id coppy but dont have the change of ownership so mow he dont want to pay me wat can i do
