How to remove DSTV dish from roof

When I moved into my unit two years ago, the body corporate of the complex made the previous tenant leave his dish behind. He was told to claim the cost back from the owner of the unit. I would think that the same should apply here.

The problem here is that the landlord/owner needs to he agreeable to this kind of thing. I'd imagine if you have a hard time getting your deposit back, you're going to struggle to get money for the dish. I might be wrong here though :o

Then you definitely are not allowed to remove it.

Why not? When I moved in I installed dstv with dish when there was none and when I moved I got on the roof, undid the bolts, cut cable to lnb and took away dish to exchange for money. Did this 3 times actually.

There were problems with the deposit, because agents were changed somewhere along the line, probably still gonna have to fight for the deposit aswell.

If you read your lease, you'll probably find that while you're allowed to install a dish you're not allowed to remove it. You can probably ask your landlord to reimburse you for it though...

I still have holes in my ****ing chimney from where a tenant put up a dish and then removed it later. Leaving the ****ing wires dangling.

True. Which is why I also understand why many people ignore body corporate rules and take the dish anyway.

It's because it's a fixture that you're not allowed to remove it, same as with an airconditioner.

Most complexes that I have seen, disallow this, as the dish is classified as a fixture (like guttering). Removing it defaces the building within the complex, leading to additional maintenance (repainting and so on).

I actually asked the landlord via the rental agency to install it and they said I'm free to put one up and take when I vacate. The landlord wouldn't pay for it.

a common rule when renting or buying/selling a place, if you would turn the house up side down, everything that does not come loose i.e fall around, need to stay.

But I have seen/heard of people taking off security gates that they installed, dishes and even a tap, and installing an old rusted one...
