Why not just make it so that people can only speak in public channels when they are level 21? Or when you have a confirmed paid for account?

I actually have a theory that blizzard supports these gold sellers. I have seen gold sellers actually drop avatars from the sky to make a web address and it's there for hours and hours. Lately there is even a bunch of them stacked up on top of each other so it looks like a billboard :D

There is only one way, get people to stop buying gold.

Anything else farmers will just find away around and people who say Blizz supports gold farmers are just silly, if they wanted to sell gold or items or whatever like so many other MMO's they could and they would but they don't.

1000's of suggestions all very good ones have been suggested to blizzard and nothing happens in this regard. It's pretty easy for them to mute the trial accounts from global channels and so on. You even get Addons that stop this, but blizzard just refuses. I guess they don't have the players interrests at heart then ...........

Trial accounts on US cannot /w , /y or speak in global channels. They can however /s . The only way they can /w is when someone /w them first or the paying player has the trial on their friends list. Tested this a few weeks ago when I used the scroll of resurrection to get a free month of game time for my friend.

Oh Esea, the site which you have shown here thats really very informative. I really found many information from it. The another thing is that I also came to know more thing from which I was unknown.

Other games are doing exactly that. Aion i believe blocks you from all public channels until lvl 10 [i think, still takes awhile to get there] AND then they have this crazy 30 second delay everytime you post to a channel. i.e. if you say something, you can't say anything again for 30 seconds in the channel.

There's a few ways:

1. Sell gold for cash in a cash store [legally] and remove the monthly subscription [this is actually where things moving anyway with all these "free to play" MMOs cropping up]

2. Remove the need to "grind" for direct currency and place emphasis on skills . There's a few MMOs where there are no "drops" from mobs, you need to harvest raw material [requiring a skill to do so] and CRAFT everything yourself [again requiring a skill do so] and then you can USE the items [again requiring a skill to do so] , there is nothing you can do with "gold" or "money" that requires you to buy it outside the game.
Simply put: WoW you got say your Alchemy skill , to raise it you need to buy zillions of stupid materials from the AH OR harvest it yourself [herbalism]. Imagine if you actually required your "herbalism" skill to USE the raw material in Alchemy and again required your Alchemy skill to USE the potions you made.... This would imply you can not buy "plants" from the AH in droves and level up your Alchemy without actualy having had to harvest the plants YOURSELF and therefore buying "gold" will not help you a whole lot. You would actually need to PLAY THE GAME .

Now #2 is a little tricky to implement, especially if you still want a real economy in your game....catch is if you want a real economy in your game then you will have gold spammers unless you do #1 . And then people will moan about players "buying their way to the top" , yet this is exactly what happens anyway.

I believe EVE is already doing #1 in some form "legally" [buying ISK/Gold with your subscription/cash ]

Diabolus,

You're spot on with those points. Guild Wars for one focuses on skill rather than armor. The only thing you really buy with gold/platinum in game is items to make your armor visually better, stats wise it's the same as the armor someone gets who dings top level 5mins in.

On Lord of the rings online the auction house only really stocks raw materials and there's a huge focus on crafting to make gear. Having said that ... the most expensive thing I've bought in game was 4gold for my mount. Anything expensive on there is either very rare materials or cosmetic items.

There's almost no need for stacks of gold in there since you only need miniscule amounts for potions and repairs. Also the main trading currency in the game is silver, not gold. To date I haven't seen a single gold spammer on there...it's rather unusual, but nice.

um, in wow gold is like drugs in RL. and 'being banned' is like police action against drug dealers. but drug dealers get outta jail eventually. same as spammers get back into wow to sell gold. or something like that
