This is surely a noobish question, but here goes:
I have a desktop PC with XP Pro and CDR/W, with sharing enabled on CD drive.
On my netbook with XP Home on, I'd like to connect to CD drive on desktop PC to listen to CD's, load software etc.
Connected with crossover cable, cable works fine, file sharing is 100%.
On my netbook I go to My Computer, Tools, Map Network Drive ( the default drive letter assigned is Z, so I leave it at that) and browse to the shared drive.
With an audio CD in the desktop PC I can see the tracks listed from my netbook, when I click to play a track Windows Media Player launches but the track doesn't play.
I'm sure I've overlooked something basic?

Loaded up Media Player Classic, it tells me "Cannot render the file"
I'm sure I've made a fundamental blunder, can someone point me in the right direction?

BUMP

Either this is such a basic question that nobody can be bothered to reply, or it's a little more unusual/trickier than most. Anyway, I still can't get it figured out. Anyone?

You cannot play a CD over a network, unless you use some sort of streaming application that converts the CD audio to a format that the remote computer can use....
