This is also interesting because Seacom doesn't peer openly and they do not peer with route servers so they would use seacom for a pont to point and take the traffic on their network in JHB and then peer with route server.

So basically they don't have any layer 2 between their DCs in SA?
Anyone know of a good alternative to WARP now that they're using Cogent? Used to be able to get international ping down by ~20ms and it was more stable than Afrihost. Now it's 20-50ms worse and has packet loss.

Warp is the only free VPN that has local servers.
You can look at Windscribe they have a decent offering where you choose a location for $1 and then $1 to go uncapped so $2 per month
Would be nice to have Google VPN in SA.

I heard about their VPN they are testing, sadly wouldn't work in CT since we have no POP meaning higher latencies... Like 190 to Belgium vs 155...
I'm working on a pptp solution that will help.
Thanks I'll give it a try this evening. I'm using WARP+ so I'm already paying ~$1.70 per month - not a huge price jump.
Any details on this? Are you setting up a VPC WireGuard server?

There is no real change betwen Warp and Warp+ i have a very old Warp+ config i run through Wireguard and i see no difference in Warp and Warp+... I do leave my Warp+ config on tho
I get only 1mbps upload if I don't pay for it. That's the only difference I've seen.

That way you can force routing via CPT or DUR. You will still have access to all the caches in those areas for stuff like Netflix and Youtube but have the benefit of directing traffic like that.

PPTP? Why not wireguard?
Unencrypted just to test the setup and for speed.
With pptp we can incorporate it in to clientzone to have password resets as the code it already there.
Interesting. Didn't know about that service - does it serve the same purpose as dynamic DNS, or does it have other advantages?
If you force routing via CPT/DUR, does that guarantee that you'll get to WACS/Seacom, respectively?
That pptp is mainly for bypassing natted restrictions. We setting up a a general purpose pptp server in CPT at first which clients can use like Warp to force traffic over WACS.
We only use Liquid and Openserve from CPT to Europe and that is a ~143ms from CPT to LON route. Add the ~20ms JHB to CPT and the 2ms L2 latency and we are looking at ~164ms or so JHB to London. Will update once it's been set up. For KZn we have a direct Druabn to London route via Openserve that is around 160ms or so which means 160ms + 8ms JHB to Durban you can get less than 170ms via Durban.

Cogent from JHB has been really unreliable as of late.
They use a very unreliable NLD between JHB and CPT. I think one of the worst things Cloudflare has done is use Cogent. They were better off using a direct East Coast route rather.
