HP considering consumer PC spinoff

Judging from the info given in this article, HP have absolutely no clue what they want to do. Sounds almost like a headless chicken running around. If I was a shareholder, I'd be calling for the CEO's head. The world's biggest PC manufacturer wants to get out of hardware, and into software? Are they nuts? Instead, they need to streamline their business, and refocus their strategy on core products.

I for one would prefer HP laptops over all other brands, except Dell. They are rated 2nd best in my books (for laptops, notebooks, netbooks, etc). I'd also rate their printers number 1 for home and small office use.

The TouchPad and WebOS devices have only recently been launched, and already they're canning these projects? Why? Is the WebOS operating system not good enough? Noticed how HPs printer drivers have turned into huge resource-intensive bloatware bundled with other crap you don't want or need? It's plainly obvious that HP suck terribly on the software side of things. Why then do they want to invest 12 billion dollars into a software company which they are probably going to run into the ground? Why are they trying to compete with Microsoft and Google (operating systems, software, search, etc).

They're definitely going crazy.

HP Laptops, in my opinion are not bad although their after-sales service and support really suck. I don't know if this is a world wide situation but if they jacked up their poor service and dropped the price on their overpriced products I am sure they would improve on their market share.

I once had a client who had a HP ProLiant server that was not compatible with HP DAT drives ! go figure :(

+1 They just bought Palm for 1 Billion and now they want to stop WebOS and smart phones? I would love to sit in one of these boardrooms while these discussions are going on.
