HP ProLiant MicroServer

I'll probably get burned at the stake for this but I'm pretty convinced that my XBMC interface is faster on windows 7 than it was on openelec. Switching it to windows mode and doing some stuff on windows also works flawlessly where on ubuntu I basically had to do a hard reset if I tried that.

"Most" people use windows so naturally its a first choice, but not everyone wants to fork out at least R800 (Win7 Home Basic - does it even have networking capability?) for a license.

Hi

So I have given up on Windows for the time being, just because it wont work, I would still prefer it. Just because I want to run a NAS in VMware and I know Windows. I don't really want to take the time to learn anything else(although I should).

I tried installing Ubuntu 11.10, but all I could manage was to boot from the USB drive as it does not pick up my hdd(the standard 250gig Seagate). I have checked it is inserted correctly.

When I boot from usb and go to system info, it lists my RAM,CPU but no hdd.
Has anyone got any tips?

I've tried Ubuntu. But didn't have any hdd issues. Sorry.

The hdd is recognized on boot right?

See if openelec picks it up. Takes a couple minutes to install.

I am waiting for my HP to be delivered.

Going to buy the MSI GT 520, 2GB RAM, Harmony 650 and a receiver (following Keeper's guide). I find all the products on takealot.com which makes it easier but can't seem to find an IR receiver there. Am I doing it wrong?

Is there any online shop that has all 4 these items available?

I think mine came stock with 1GB of RAM when i got it from HP in December last year. This is more than enough, especially if you're going OpenElec. When I monitor my ram usage its using less than 500MB of RAM.

So unless you're going with a heavy version of Windows 7, I really think 2GB of RAM is overkill.

My GT5120 does all the heavy lifting :-)

Rather follow Milkman's guide. :o
(and yes, you don't really need to buy ram as rogerwe said)

Hehe, reading both. ;)

Okay I will drop the RAM then - just that bloody IR Receiver. Probably has been discussed in this thread before. Will search.

I installed sickbeard and SABnzbd two nights ago on my laptop as a test to see how they integrate. Amazing.

I need to shuffle my sickbeard and sabnzb onto ther server once it arrives. Am hoping its not going to be too big a thing.

just a quick question
Anyone knows if my my logitech wireless kb will work when installing openelec?
