HP ProLiant MicroServer

Still sceptical to switch to Frodo but ill wait for it to get out of the beta first... Funny thing is even when I go into the anime's folder XBMC also force resets itself... Even tried opening the files from a usb... Same result

Frodo is stable man, go ahead..

Just because it has Beta in the name doesn't mean its buggy - it's in the final stages afaik.

just stay away from the nightlies though imo..

cool beans how does one update openelec to the latest version... Or do I need to format and redo everything?

You need to follow the upgrade guide on the openelec website as the internal databases are not compatible.
Basically you need to back up libraries, upgrade, restore libraries and reconfigure sources.

Anyone used this as desktop replacement pc for simple tasks like MS word and general browsing? Haven't used a low powered cpu for a while now, not sure how capable the updated Turion processor is. Buying a micro-server is cheaper it seems than buying the desktop equivalent for simple tasks.

It works well, even for some light gaming, just add more memory and a GPU. I'm sure the on-board video is more than adequate, the only downside is that it is VGA only.

I'd be wary about adding a gpu for gaming. The power supply is tiny.

tried connecting the MS via vga to my plasma last night. it booted up fine but when it opened xmbc the screen went black and said 'Mode not supported' - so :wtf:

Warning to XBMC for iPad users - DO NOT try out intensive Skins like Aeon Nox.
(it freezes up/crashes and you can't go back unless you delete files located deep in the iOS filesystem)

While i'm talking about XBMC for iPad... Anyone got any tips on how to make browsing through the library faster?
It's painfully slow for me as my library is quite big :(

Is this on Frodo? The same thing happened on my Macbook in Frodo so I reverted to Eden and all skins work fine...

Will test Frodo out first to see if it fixes some of the MKV codec problems ive been experiencing before upgrading... Oh and just one more thing.. I cant seem to egt Navi-X to work on openelec 2.0.0 can anybody please confirm that it does indeed work on openelec 2.9.9 or 3.0.0. rc1

On openelec 2.0.0 I hear audio but the picture just hangs for some reason.. Never experienced this with XBMCBUNTU

Thinking about installing Openelec soon as I don't need ubuntu installed, what's the best version (is the latest stable?) and are there any issues? (using a GT610). And can I install different skins like normal XBMC?

This information is on the site. 2.0 is the official stable build. 3.0 is in an advanced beta stage, but I learnt with version 2.0 to be patient and wait for stable release.

So go with 2.0 generic build. Will take you half an hour from start to finish, if you don't have any problems.

Build 3 is in release candidate stage, I have had no issues with it, but then again I don't use a whole bunch of plugins.

Try it, it's super easy to have a few different verions on old pensioned-off memory sticks which you can switch between.

Is anyone using a wireless headset with their microserver? I'm using openelec on my box and my girlfriend wants to murder when I'm watching at night. Any headsets you can recommend?

You'll probably need a 3.5mm jack correct? I have a usb sound card for about R40, but I run a wired headphone. It's just a bit annoying to switch audio device every time.

Dudes ever since I installed Frodo RC3 my N40L seems to take ages loading he posters when I browse through my Library... Any ideas?

I had the same issue on Frodo so reverted back to Eden. It's probably a skin issue if you're not using the default Confluence. Others claim it takes a while to build the cache. See this thread:

Yeah im starting to think that too... my cpu usages from both cores stay in the mid 50% region the whole time... Good thing I still have Eden on a different drive.. Only reason I wanted Frodo becuase Navi X and some other MKV's dont result in force reset when I try and play it..

Edit: Hybrid seems to show all the covers at least but Frodo is still jerky at best... With CPU dips all over the place... Eeeekkk

Also cant get Yatse or the XBMC remote to sync... and yes Zeroconf is enabled

Second Edit: Screw it, im going back to Eden! A much better experience and the stability is much better than Frodo RC3
