HP ProLiant MicroServer

Do you think that the same applies to OPENELEC?
I might be doing some re formatting

Possibly check that they didn't try a 3rd party BIOS and semi brick the device. If you can possibly attempt a BIOS recovery?

Apologies if this has been asked -- and -- answered already ( I did do a search within the thread -- but it is longer than that other crazy one :) )

I have been given three of these N40L -- looks like // However some sort of power damage which I have to try and find and fix.
Original HDD and memory removed -- but that is not too great a problem.

Have striped them down and checked the PSU's ( which are working )
However no luck with the MB's
One lights up and when you switch on , the fan turns and the other stuff lights up , but NO POST
The others are just dead.
I have checked carefully with a magnifying glass and can see no burnt tracks or other visible damage
Will have them checked out by an electronics fundi.

In the mean time
Is it worthwhile to try and change the MB ? ( get a new one )
Is it possible to get re-furb / re-built MB's ?
How expensive are they ?
Is there any other brand of MB that will fit in this case ?

Looks like an interesting machine so I would like to try and persevere ( NO bucks for new stuff  )

Appreciate your suggestions.

Dude I've run 24gb 1080P Bluray rips through the thing without it even blinking.

This while running SAB, SB, CP, HP and a number of other things.

I do have 4gb memory though, but It hardly uses any of it.

No need to worry about the decoding since the video card handles all of that and my 5450 Is the Ati equivalent of the GT610 you want.

Can I pick your brain please? Or anyone elses...

I just got everything setup - AMD 5450, 4GB RAM.... basically identical system to you. Got Win7 Ultimate x64.

My XBMC video playback is awful... even with SD media. DXVA and everything else is configured as explained too... :(

EDIT: Just for *****s and giggles I tried software rendering for an SD show, just as crappy.

EDIT 2: All videos play fine in VLC or even Media Player... Even my 1080p rip of Avatar. Perfectly smooth.

EDIT 3: I am quite ashamed... I found the problem... It is such a stupid problem that I should actually get rid of all of the above, but I am not the only moron out there and it may help someone else. Turns out that XBMC freaks out when it doesn't find an active audio device. And since I was still running on a VGA monitor while setting up, there was obviously nothing connected to my HDMI. The second I connected HDMI everything worked flawlessly.

Sorry only saw this now.

Yeah XBMC tends to lose it's **** with regards to audio.

Can't remember what I watched the other day but it had a DTS Master HD soundtrack and it stuttered along at 3fps.

Switched off the "DTS Master HD capable receiver" option and it played normal DTS quite happily.

No worries... Was more just hoping (in desperation) that you would see it sometime during my struggles :erm:

I am quite enjoying my MSI AMD 5450... Runs a bit warm, but airflow is a bit restricted in the microserver case.

Was nice and cheap and seems to be doing the trick.

Should hopefully be fixed in 12.1 due soon...

I need a sound card and a low profile one is either scarce or expensive. Will a USB sound card also work?

Sorry guys but I did search the forums first and couldn't really find anything useful.....

I have a HP N40L running Plex connected to my TV ect and was using one of those crap R139 remotes which worked only if you were standing right in front of the receiver. So I got fed up and went out to buy a Harmony 300i to use with the HP. Is there a certain guide I need to follow to use the Harmony with Plex? I don't want the Harmony to replace my TV remotes and Blu ray remote ect, literally just want it for Plex.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

you will need to get a reciever that will work with the harmony remote
the R139 one will probably work but you will have to use the learn function to program the R139 functions into the harmony

Yeah I still have the reciever and am going to use it with the harmony. Is it a simple setup or is it quite complicated? I know you have to go to some website so setup it up - do I need to do that even if I just want to use it for Plex and nothing else?
