HP ProLiant MicroServer

why keep 4.7GB ISOs anyway, for that amount of HDD Space you might as well go 720p Bluray MKVs

makes no sense to me

Yea, more or less the same size for huge quality improvement. If you want the extra features you should buy the BD disk and be done with it.

I got a price on the N54L for R2199 ex vat, but reading the last couple of posts I see that it might not be worth the price.
My plan with it was to use it as an always-on file server (for backups as well).

Do you guys still think it is worth it or what else could I look at?

Why not just get a dedicated NAS.

Hmm. I should get a NAS to put up in the roof somewhere as an "off site" backup...

You can easily store 15TB+ with one of those n54L Microservers and also use it as an always on download PC, HTPC and then some. Still a better option than anything else out there if you ask me. The fact that it got more expensive than opposed to the past models is undeniable but the value for money is still there.

I have the ffg components that I purchased for a second Microserver which I subsequently sold without unboxing it so these are surplus to my requirements :

1. MSI GeForce Graphics Card GT520 1GB 64Bit DDR3 - PCI-E. Never used but unboxed to check if low profile bracket included which it is.

2. Windows Home Server 2011 64 bit English OEM System Builder DVD 10 Client software. Brand new

Both items purchased from Takealot. If anyone is interested in any of these please PM me. I am in Durban but can send to anywhere via Speed Services.

What are the considerations when buying a sound system for the Microserver-xbmc. Looking at a soundbar type system.

Not sure how the connections work with hdmi

Hey guys.

I hope someone can help me. I recently bought an HP Proliant MicroServer N40L. Specs are listed below.

I have the server connected to my Samsung Smart TV so I can switch the source between TV and HDMI1. Now I have played around with the power settings to never sleep and never turn off the hard drives but nothing has helped. When I am using the server it works absolutely perfectly. If I switch to TV and back to HDMI1 after a couple hours the server still works flawlessy. If I leave the system on TV etc. and do not go to HDMI1 for about 2 days then when I do, it is slow and unresponsive. If I go into My Computer it thinks for a while and then goes in. If I click on a drive it makes a black square etc. This carries on for like 15 to 20 seconds. After that everything is perfect again and the server works flawlessly. I have installed all the Windows updates and have the latest Catalyst driver installed. Any advice guys? I am sure it is a power management thing but I don't know where to start. Maybe the WD Green drives has a power management clashing with the PC? Thanks so much in advance.

8GB RAM
250GB Hard Drive
3TB WD Green Drive
3TB WD Green Drive
Sapphire 1GB Graphics Card
Trendnet 300mbps USB wifi
Logitech K400 keyboard
Windows 8 64bit
LG Blu-Ray Writer

Placed my order for an N54l from Cybernatic:D

I'm wondering what my options are for a NAS configuration. How have you guys got it set up?

Hey guys...

Wierd problem: After installing 3.0, I suddenly lost samba (\\ip_addr from win machines gives "search path not found"). Tried a clean install, tried 3.01 and still nada. After installing 2.0, samba is back and life is good. Reinstall 3.01 and no samba. Any idea what is causing samba to not start?

You've obviously turned on all the settings after your install? I just switch everything on.

Are you using a password?

Does the browser based remote work ip:port?
