I see some people are running xbmc on raspberry pi, and have it connected to a micro server. Why not run xbmc on the server?

On the N54L can you use normal RAM or do you need ECC RAM?
Just to let you we just got in the new Gigabyte GT210 VGA card with HDMI and just installed it on the HP Proliant server with no issues actually was very easy.
The stock code is stk# GV-N210D3-1GI it is not on the Online store as yet as the stock just arrived now order this items manually until the weekend , It also come with a LP bracket so no need to purchase one

Do you mean have the server output via HDMI to the LCD? If so then the server in a lounge area won't be optimal, factors like æsthetics, noise etc to consider. You want a server best to serve files, not run programs that could crash etc.
Hardware playback of 1080p video will depend on the particular server, but the Rpi's Videocore GPU does 1080p effortlessly. The CPU feels like a dog though, graphics primitives are not hardware accelerated via the GPU for now.
