HP ProLiant MicroServer

gone are the days when you got them for around R1500..00

Better yet: paid R1258incl in October last year when Esquire had their mental special! Could kick myself for not buying another one to store for when needed!!

They are so quiet that I don't even hear the drives or fans from my top cupboard in my bedroom!

My one cost R600 new. The other one was R1100.

Not to worry though I am sure there will be something to fill the gap if the MS gets too expensive.

How is the performance on these N54L for x265 encodes? I know NO GPU decoding support yet and CPU needed but my N40L is struggling so thinking to either upgrade to something for future proofing or hope that when GPU decoding support comes, it will work fine. What do you guys think :)?

Few 1080p "test" videos are out at around 11GB if anyone hasn't already tried. :D

i was doing the same test just plays sound with my proliant PHD are releasing new releases in x265 so i really want to be able to play these ****

what else can we try/do ?

What Ram do you guys use from Esquire? I want to upgrade mine but have read so many different opinions.
I am sure it is in here somewhere though.

Kingston ValueRAM works fine ...

Hi guys

Right now I'm busy installing my 4 WD Red 3tb drives into the microserver. When I pulled out the first bay I found the 250gb drive in there. I thought the drive was meant to be under the optical drive and above the hard drive bay.

Anyways......I want to use the 250gb hard drive for the OS. What do I do and where do I install it? I see there is a spare set of hdd screws.

those screws are for the ODD bay
there are more black screws for the HDDs, just check it out
they all lined up in a row at the bottom

I've got the 4 Red's in but I don't have space for the 250gb standard hard drive. I think I need a hard drive caddy for the optical bay. Any recommendations? Do I need any other cables as well?

You can get a Vantec Nexstar caddy @ Matrix Warehouse. Takes 2 hot-pluggable 2.5" drives. Make one an SSD for the OS and you'll have a blazing machine. You'll need an eSATA to Sata converter cable and to flash a custom Bios. Also some power splitters (Y-cables).
There is a guide someplace, I'll try and find it.

Found some links... Pretty sure they've been mentioned before..

Might not be applicable to the latest model... Not sure, I have an N36, N40 & N54. N54 is still in it's box waiting for me.

Thank you very much. Seems like I will have to flash the bios and get a 3.5 to 5.25 caddy for the optical bay.

I'm also missing a cable probably the power to the caddy. My fifth sata port seems to be occupied by a cable taken up to the optical bay.

For caddy's look at the Vantec products

I use the Vantec Nexstar SE units.
So I have 6 drives available internally. 1 x 120Gb SSD, 1 x 1 TB 2.5" & 4 x 4 TB 3.5"

You can even use AData that we import , I have installed AData 2GB memory on 7x of my personal HP ProLiant Servers and have had no issues thus far

If you looking for Sata and ESATA cables we brought in a shipment late last

I just noticed they not on the website and will make sure they updated by the weekend
