Using XBMC - During playback of videos, it randomly stops playback, but can't do anything with XBMC. I can minimize XBMC and everything else works and I can bring up title bars etc on XBMC but it appears as if XBMC is paused, but not actually paused. Then it resumes playing again. I have tried a lot of suggestions like turning uPnP off.

Not sure if this is the same issue, but worth a try.
Im running XBMC Live, connected via HDMI to an Onkyo 607. Every now and again (but randomly), the HDMI feed would drop with the TV showing 'no signal'.

I managed to fix this by changing the Video settings in XBMC to run in Fullscreen - it was originally set windowed but with fullscreen resolution. It appeared as if some type of screen saver was kicking in every few minutes.

This was when the server was booting directly into XBMC. Since then, ive re-configured it to boot into fluxbox, and then start XBMC - not sure if this is an option for you.

Are you chaps running the lastest drivers for the NIC?

http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/netxtreme_server.php (no affiliation!)

Not sure if they solve the copy problems, but the win7 drivers at least have better WOL options than the one that gets installed by default.

I tried this last night. I updated the drivers on the Win 2K8R2 install and kicked off a 3.xTB move over the network. This morning the server had a shiny, new desktop session for me because it had blue-screened during the night. This is the first blue-screen I've had with the server. The driver update was also the most recent change in the past few days. It may be coincidence, but if I get another blue-screen I will be removing the bespoke driver and going back to the vanilla Microsoft one.

Thanks. I have looked at log files and it's almost as if the actual files in the box disappear and can't seen by XBMC because of a line where it says something like "Request for data but none was given", then goes about returning itself back to playing, forcing all sorts of things.

I will try running a live version ad see if that changes anything.

I am this close to buying the Gigabyte GT210 / ATI HD5450, the main use is for the HDMI out (Audio + Video). For it to work on my TV, does my TV have to support HDMI v1.3 and do I need an HDMI v1.3 cable?

I have a Sony 32 inch LCD, KLV-32T550A. (I bought it Dec 2009, I hope it supports HDMI 1.3a)

[I am Windows 7 and XBMC]

hahahahaha... nah no such intentions. just wanted to show that what I posted came from their site.

agree as we have seen now.

another reason why an OP post would be good.

maybe I should say: every1 pm me your HP setup with OS+software combo plus your hardware usage and say which gfx you bought and if it had LP bracket. then I make a new thread with "APPROVED" configurations.
something like:
- OS
- Media software
- Hardware added (if any)
- GFX card running (did it include LP brackets)

then maybe add something like:
- what bugs/problems/issues encountered so far

just an idea.

are you still going to do an "approved build" thread? I think it would be useful. There is a lot of useful information in this thread, but it's a bit spread out :(

We already have quite a few tested builds with very different setups and OS's, and some very helpful tips on bugs and workarounds for issues.

I think you might have to trawl through the thread though, dont know if everyone will do the effort to PM info already given, and it will probably miss out on some of the bugs/issues.

I'll be posting my build soon as well.

I would if the details mentioned could be PM'd.

the problem with browsing the topic for the info is, in many cases not everything would be mentioned so I would anyway require the person to PM me something.

for those that don't deem it too much effort to PM me the details, by all means go ahead and I will start it.

Is there a way with freenas 8 to pick up drives that already have data on?
Every time I try import or add a volume it wants me to format it.
Tried freenas 7.2 and it stops and asks me to mount a dump file with the livecd......Im really having no luck with this :/

Thought someone was going to be doing us a installation guide :p

I tried to use freenas 8 but it didnt want to add my NTFS drives. Using FreeNAS 7 I got it to work quickly. Just keep in mind NTFS is not very happy being written to by older non-Windows systems (in my experience).

Try looking at this guide http://www.linux.com/archive/feature/150599 Steps 1 and 2 can be replaced by adding a drive to your server. Ill take some screenshots tonight

Have you tried using a different flashdrive? Which option did you use during the install 1 or 2?

I assume you made the flash bootable (with the special utility) before or after copying the unRaid files to it?

And you set your machine to boot of flash?

It typically takes about 10 minutes to get a new machine from virgin state to an unRaid server. (And then 24 hours to pre-clear the disks...)

Yip, used the utility to make the disk bootable, changed the disks name to unraid etc.
Just ended up hanging with a flashing _ for about 30min so restarted box and got same thing. But then went on to read the unraid only supports 3 drives less you pay $70 for it, so off the idea of using that now.

I have 5x 2tb sitting there fill of data, just need to get them up and running so I can watch things again. If I end up installing a fully functional OS Im gonna freak out ^_^

Quick question for you guys here.

I want to get the HP server. Stick in a low profile GT210 and connect it to my tv. (Obviously)

What i ideally want is XBMC. Raid 5. And the ability to get to a web interface for torrent downloads.
What would the best route be for this?

An option you could explore is XBMC Live on Ubuntu using SABnzbd+ for your nzb/torrents or utorrent, both of which provide web interfaces to manipulate them.

With respect to the RAID 5, the HP MS doesn't support it natively, so maybe investigate unRAID or something similar; jannievanzyl is best suited to offer you suggestions in this regard.
