OK, I got the external power supply solution working and it works great as a temporary solution.

But I can't find any of the 1U units for sale in SA. Maybe I'm just DOF. But I would appreciate a direct link where I could just click and order 3 units.

Thanks.

You could try these blokes (never used them):

http://www.comx-computers.co.za/FSP...Energy-Star-5-0-SFX-2-1-Power-Buy-p-77878.php

You might also alternatively look for cases that include the correctly sized power supply and just strip it out, you might have more luck with that, but it will cost more.

<edit> The dimensions for that unit are slightly different to what you have given for the HP one above. </edit>

I looked all over Comx's site for that damn thing. I had no idea it was stuck under the ITX chassis category.

As for the dimensions, it's accurate. Some manufacturers measure from the screw holes, others measure from the actual casing. It's usually only off by about a millimeter, but they're the same size.

I suppose I can take the 3 blown units in for repair. I just wonder how much.

Depends what's gone I s'pose. The local (Blouberg) electrical fundi charges around R200 to replace all the caps in an item, but if you were hit by lightening or a surge, more is likely to be broken.

OK, I requested a quote. Thanks!

Pleasure. Let us know if they have stock. Might get one as a backup for the future.

Comx says it's a SFX, it's NOT!. The SFX has a fan on the inside of the chassis, the ATX outside like we are looking at.

Additional confirmation: Part No FSP150-50LH - is a SParkle PSU

Happiness is ... :)

/Edit: price is right as well.

Does the PSU above have the same amount of molex connectors and cable lengths as the stock HP one? I know of a few people who are looking for replacement PSUs

That I couldn't tell you.

OTOH, given that it is a standard 1U power supply, it should: at the worst you may need a splitter or two.

I also thought that my PSU was blown. A quick Google returned the voltages for each pin of the motherboard connector; ten minutes with a multi-meter confirmed that my PSU was working.

HELP! OK, so I got three replacement PSU's and they fit perfectly in the case. I had to use two splitters for the power cables to go from the two supplied to the four needed.
The power cable fits perfectly.

But the problem I am having now is that when I boot up there is an AHCI error. It says AHCI port not found.
Then it boots all the way through, but stops just before the OS loads.
Is there some kind of cable I have to plug from the PSU into the motherboard so it can detect the AHCI or something?

(or is it possible this is some resultant damage from the power surge?)
I've only tried one microserver so far.
I didn't have this problem with the normal sized external PSU.

Could be damage. Try the others.

Edit: see you don't have the problem with the external. That's odd.

You didn't dislodge the HDD cable?

Sorry, let me clarify, I tried the external psu on one of the other microservers but not this one.
So yes, it could be resultant damage on this one.

Then try the new psu on the same board and try the external on the suspect one.

Pretty easy. The exe has a utility in to create a bootable USB. Just stick it in and boot. It will auto update.
