How does one go plex? I'm on openelec. So i'm guessing I need some sort of OS. Is WHS2011 the front runner?

Stay away from whs 2011. Too much hassle in my opinion. Rather go win 7 or 8.1 or 10 imho.

Ubuntu is the best option, but if you've struggled before you'll struggle again.

Windows 10 next best bet. With the new Media Optimizer function you can pre-transcode and stream anything with the little Microserver.

There was a PlexELEC or OpenPlex project too, just can't remember if it runs the server too.

I want to upgrade to Windows 10 on my n54l. Is there going to be any issues? What BIOS version is required? Am I goint to have problems with my onboard network adapter?

I had to update my BIOS to go to windows 8 for the network adapter, 10 just worked out of the box

OK, so I need to buy 3 replacements power supplies for my MicroServers. They got hit by lightning or power surges at various time over the past year.

The model is Delta Electronics DPS-150TB. It is obviously a 150 watt power supply.

I know somebody posted earlier in this thread where we could get these things... was it Carbonite?
Anyway, please repost the info, or suggest a replacement.
I wonder if I could strap a normal PC power supply on the back of these things??? :D

I used a normal PSU when mine packed in, was no issues but not ideal given the cable management.

You can, the voltages and rails are the same. It's just a standard 1U power supply. SPL will sell you the original units if you want those.

This is the standalone replacement for ASUSTOR NAS units: http://raru.co.za/electronics/1903766-asustor-150w-flex-power-supply

I'll look around and see if I find any of these in stock. They're difficult to find on most of the retailers I know of. Cooler Master used to bundle one into the Elite 100.

Edit: One alternative is a pico PSU, but they're usually not up to powering too many hard drives.

Sorry, who is SPL?

Yeah, I saw those, and then saw they were out of stock, would appreciate an alternative. Don't want to have to import! Thanks

How did you strap it to the case? I'm thinking of drilling a few holes and using cable ties to strap it on the outside of the case.

Service Parts Logistics - www.spl.co.za

You can give them a call tomorrow (IIRC they used to be open on a Saturday), give them the model number of the PSU or the HP part number on the label, and they'll tell you what they have in stock. They'll also sell regular 1U power supplies, so that could be helpful.

You can also try Partserve - www.partserve.co.za. First Shop might be able to help you as well - www.firstshop.co.za

RedLinx used to sell 1U power supplies as well - www.redlinx.co.za

All of the distributors locally will also carry 1U power supplies. That applies to Pinnacle, Rectron, Mecer, etc., basically anyone who already sells 1U chassis will also have these in stock.

And you could probably ask HPShop to source them for you - www.hpshop.co.za/

Okay, just because you're a good guy ... (normally ) ;)

You could buy one of these: DPS-150TB / 630295-001 / 620827-001 and pay a packet if money is no object.

You could opt to have then repaired. Some people are pretty good at it without it costing you a packet. That is if it's salvageable. If you're in the PTA area I could refer you to somebody.

Alternatively, research the Flex ATX spec. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/power-supply-specifications-atx-reference,3061-5.html These are easily obtainable internationally. Locally your luck varies. Otherwise the normal PSU rules applies: Brand, as long as the wire configuration is workable (4 Molex I think) etc, it should fit.

Have a buddy with a NAS device also using these PSU's. Being the owner of 2 x HP Microservers I stored this info for own personal later recycling :)
(Eventually he ordered one from abroad. It got lost at SAPO, but was luckily replaced :) )

Last I saw, Amazon was exporting to ZA. Also free. (BIG savings)

Hope you're sorted quickly.

Thanks for all the great info, guys.
I'll try and order locally first.
I did check Amazon and found the spec there, but on that page it says they don't ship to SA.
Cheers!

OK, I got the external power supply solution working and it works great as a temporary solution.

But I can't find any of the 1U units for sale in SA. Maybe I'm just DOF. But I would appreciate a direct link where I could just click and order 3 units.

Thanks.

http://prntscr.com/9tpl0n Amazon to South Africa :)

But first prize would probably be a repair?
