Guys,

My N54 is behaving weirdly.... at unpredictable intervals, the on-board network and (some) USB ports will stop working, a reboot fixes this until it re-occurs. The rear USB ports are completely dead all the time though.

Everything else works fine.

I guess the motherboard is busy dying on me...

Any suggestions? Anyone have a spare motherboard for me?

Running Ubuntu 14.04 on a N36L. I was trying to track down poor network transfer speeds and found the ethernet only running at 100 Mb/sec. The card is 1000.
Any idea how to get it to run at full speed?

The power supplies on these things are prone to failure. Has anyone installed a 3rd party power supply yet?

Start by checking the network cable by replacing it with another.

Hi Guys,

My N54 is up for sale.

As previously mentioned the usb ports are misbehaving from time to time, but otherwise it is running perfectly.

16gb Ram included.

Edit... I should probably put it in the classifieds..

Hi all need some assistance please

My Old HP N40L packed up after about 3.5 years of usage as a media server using XBMC/KODI off windows 7
I had 2 x 2TB HDDs on it and I used it to view movies/series

The motherboard is gone (seems like some ants may have circuited it out)

Anyone know where I can get a replacement motherboard that fits?

Alternatively where can i get a replacement Microserver (either new or used) - I see theres n54l and a hp gen 8
What would you recommend?

I am based in Jhb. thanks

A new Mb will cost more than the a new unit. Check on Carb for a used n54,they usually pop up now and then for less than 2k or get the newer one if you have the cash.

Build yourself a MITX PC. To hell with proprietary parts

Anyone have suggestions for the following hardware.. my one HDD failed and thinking of speccing my storage server properly this time round..

1. 5x 3TB drives.. effectively to give me +/-9TB + 3TB. Not sure which drives are best for this.. will do 4 initally im thinking. Not sure where i can get these ideally not insanely priced.
2. Raid card for the above.
3. N54L HDD bracket for the top drive (i think its like side panels u attach to drive, dont mind that its tied in/not hot swap).

Basically my box is for storage predominately. My previous box did the downloads, sorting & plex hosting. this time round im thinking of using it same as above but moving the process intensive stuff to a separate machine i.e. apple mini server but till then it will have to do it too(yes i know not too ideal but last time round it wasnt too much of a bottle neck).

You don't need a raid card. Look at nas4free or freesnas and setup a raidz2. Can boot it off USB.
