Are there any low profile graphic cards that would play HVEC/H265 content with HW decoding?

The new Polaris and Pascal cards support hardware decoding but you'll have to find the software that uses it. The RX 460 is probably going to be the perfect little HTPC card (also supports HDR and HDMI 2.0b) - the card is only being announced within the next few days though so a little while still until you can actually get one.

Yeah. Was hoping for one of the new generation releases from NVidia and AMD to be produced the in the low profile form factor.
This will extend the live of my little workhorse for the next few years.
I will have to replace the MB with something compatible otherwise, and that is going to be a pain.
Even worse is the thought of rebuilding/replacing the server completely.

It's time to retire the MicroServer, maybe repurpose it as a dedicated NAS and get yourself a proper new front end PC. All the current GPU's that have hardware HEVC decoding require at least a 6 pin for power and besides that none of them are half height required by the HP.

I sold my MicroServer and built myself another "server" on a budget around a Intel G3258 and it works great with x265 files.

Anyone experience the older Microserver suddenly start killing off hard drives towards the end of it's life?

Just lost a second HDD which did not give any SMART errors when checked 2 days ago and a drive which did not give errors in other PC
now has gives a warning message on Microserver.

My N40L is still running strong, and Havn't killed any hard drives yet. My Gen 8 on the other side seems to dislike it's ram.

Yep, I think it might be happening to me as well... unless it is just coincidence and the age of the drives.
but I have also lost about 5 drives.

Can't afford to lose anymore drives to best to shut it down and look at resurrecting old PC as a NAS :erm:

If the drives are as old as the server in question, it's probably time to say goodbye's lol

The 4TB drive that "died" is back again after restarting the server and SMART scan gives no errors. Weird.

Always reseat stuff before trashing, I've brought what I thought were dead mobos/gfx cards to life by simply rebuilding the pc.

Yeah seemed to have forgotten my own advice i.e. always look at the last changes you made :whistling:

Did take it apart on Saturday to remove SATA controller card and put back 4 port USB 3.0 PCIe card. Maybe the one
drive was not connected 100%.

By end of life I meant it has been running 24 / 7 / 365 for a few years now. Can't expect it to last forever :p

I searched the interweb but please help.

How do I build a fast running Openelec/ Kodi server + player with the ability of having a shared network folder?

This build is for the in-laws, I'm removing Windows seeing that I've remove most of the ram. Need a setup that fast running.

NL36, 2gig ram, 250 HDD, hd5450.

Just install openelec. It has as a basic samba setup that will expose shares.

You've obviously not done any of the searching you claim to have done.

Openelec is a lightweight Linux based os with kodi built in. Boots right into kodi.

Go with LibreElec seeing as Openelec is a mess currently because most of the developers moved away due to the one guy thinking he is king.

I need some help with Plex on an old N36L. Running Windows 7 with 8MB RAM and has a GT210 graphics card.

I installed Plex Media Server on the MS and have a Minix X8-H Android media player with the Plex app on it. I have set up the PMS and linked it to the relevant folders with my media files. The MS and Minix are hard wired to my router.

With playback there is sometimes stuttering and a message appears on screen along the lines of "media server not powerful enough......"

Is the N36L not powerful enough to run Plex Media Server? Or is there something I have not configured properly?
