HP ProLiant MicroServer

Thanks! Just put the order through, very good price.

If you plan on using your MicroServers as a NAS, I hope you already bought your HDD's already as the prices have gone up and are continuing to rise because of the floods in Thailand..

Nope, well not at the moment at least. Going to use it as my new htpc.

Ye, its a pity that there site was down yesterday or they would have had my business. Ended up getting a better deal though :) Just shows how important site uptime is.

Where?

I'd like to update my thread with some exact links soon...

Here:

Haven't bought one myself this way but a few guys said www.Hpshop.co.za/m2m should work shows up at R1199

Don't think the delivery will be as quick as delivery from Bios Online (from what I've read here), but the price is damn good! To find out why its cheaper read here: http://www.hpshop.co.za/sme_epp.aspx

I was a bit confused at first. But I have ordered already and waiting invoice shows R1199 - just have to wait for delivery now. I will update here and let you know how long delivery takes.

I also placed an order for a micro-server from them for the same low price(R1199) - my order was rejected ( and money refunded) due to the fact that I was not a M2M employee.

HP Shop sent your name to M2M for verification whether you are indeed an employee and, if not, your order is canceled ( that was the reason given to me by HP Shop).

Thanks. @SomeoneEls: you should remove that link from here if that is the case, where did you get it from? I just got a call now from HPshop wanting to confirm my address details, I hope they let me know whats up soon so I don't waste any more time.

Just ordered my Microserver from Axis. R1250 inclusive. Stock is coming from JHB so it will take a day or two. In the meantime, I've been looking at the manual. Can someone explain to me how SATA works on the Microserver. The manual mentions Mini-SAS which I presume is something different. Can you connect normal SATA drives?

Anyway my plan for using XBMC.
- Have a spare SATA Corsair 32GB SSD. Hopefully I can connect it and boot from it?
- Sapphire ATI HD5450 (will be using Windows so it shouldn't be a problam?)
- Asus Xonar USB (my amp at home can't take HDMI, and the TV doesn't output the optical audio, so I'll use a separate sound card for optical audio)
- Connect a number of external USB drives, and possibly some internal drives depending on whether I can connect SATA drives.
- Link up to gigabit ethernet and double as file server.

Hehe, somehow I was only quoted R1,199 each for the 4x HP Microservers that I ordered from HPShop.

I didn't follow the M2M link at all. All I did was register an account to checkout the items, and then I was given the R1,199 price. It could also have been due to me having issues with their site's shipping option that they changed me to M2M account for some reason?

I ordered 4 of the servers on Tuesday and they arrived on Friday.

Sata works as normal - the mini SAS is a plug on the mobo connecting the satas to it in a single plug.

You can boot from ssd, and even from a usb flash connected to the mobo itself.

The hp has a gb ethernet port on the mobo.

Please remember that if you have a gfx card and asound card, you cant plug in anything else as you only have 2 pci slots.
