Really enjoying my experience with my N40L so far... In January my NIC broke... All good, got it replaced... Guess what decided to give up last night? My new NIC on my second Motherboard... Kind of frustrating

Eish!!

Not nice ...

Actually ignore my post regarding the Harmony remote. I have realized it is going to be overkill to use just for Plex - I prefer using the remotes for each device (even tho it takes up more space). So am going to return the remote and hopefully find one that works. Currently using the VideoMate K300 which is perfect for what I want but the range is pathetic - you literally have to be 30cm away from the receiver to get it to work which is extremely frustrating and also the fact that it is linked with Windows Media Player, if you accidentally press the big green windows button, it closes Plex and open Media Player which I don't want.

So could anyone recommend a remote that they are using and can guarantee works well?

If you have an Android,iOS or Windows phone, download the Plex app and use the remote feature.
Use this over WiFi to control my PC when I play music from my bed.

End of April :(

I don’t know who told you End of April as we got stocks on the new model arriving on Tuesday or Wednesday according my system, You will still be able to get it on Thursday as we are open for trade on that day if you are in Gauteng.

Most of the time it seems to be surges from the network that do this. On another forum a guy got given four microservers with damaged ethernet ports. If you live in Gauteng then this could be the problem and not the mobos.

They going to be around R1999.00 excl vat on this shipment due to ROE but will only know the final price once the stocks arrive on Tuesday or Wednesday , I will let you know on the forum the minute they arrive and on the system-

NB: they will be in Midrand this week and maybe in Durban before the weekend if they are here on Tuesday.

The price is still good compared to overseas pricing , I worked out they currently selling at around R2200 (in Rand terms)excl taxes and excluding shipping cost from what I saw on the net, Some sites are over R 3000 (in Rand terms)for the same unit. It is a pity the old model has come End of Life – it was fun while it lasted.

I think at least R500 more than the old price. So R2k at least IMO. Oh look a faster CPU, free performance! No wait the price went up by 25%. :/

What the large font giveth, the small font taketh away. We really need a microserver with an AMD APU, not some old mobile CPU. USB3, SATA6Gb/s, HDMI out, better onboard GPU etc. Look even at the E350 APUs, they already offer all this.

I told you guys, buy a PC it is better.

-more Hard Drive slots.
-easier upgrading.
-can get any 3D Card you want, no need to sit with the ultra low-end crap...
-not limited by PCI slots, PSU, mobo or chassis size limitations.

I stay in Gauteng, but I struggle to understand how both NIC's managed to only last 2 months... Lightning damage is unlikely as I learned bad lesson a few years ago, and tend to unplug. Maybe I must invest in surge protection...

I highly doubt there would be HDMI out or onboard GPU on these microservers - essentially we are "misusing" them. At the core, they are still servers, so graphics isn't generally point of it.

I suppose, in a way, HP anticipated that they may be used as desktop replacements in some cases. Hence offering the PCI express expansion slot for graphics, albeit for low(er)-end cards.

I do get your point though, it would be awesome to see something with a little bit more edge for those that use it like we do.

You guys must be importing a helluva lot. Why not use a company like Blue Strata to arrange a fully-landed cost? Trust me, give them a buzz - you'll benefit from what they offer in terms of their currency risk, funding terms, logistic and management offerings. You can also quote pre-landing and forecast more accurately, particularly when calculating your ROIs...

Also noisy and burns a lot of power for no good reason.

Oh and MASSIVE.

What if I told you I paid R500 for a brand new HP Proliant server :D, But ja, @ R2000 I would rather go the Mitx route
