I'm having an issue with 3.0.0 generic on my N40L - occasional audio dropouts on PCM audio... Seems to be a couple of people experiencing it. Maybe hold off on the upgrades.
Still worth it, there is nothing else with the same size that can run the same things and have the same personal customization options.
Really?
Have you ever heard of a Computer? Sure it's not as small but you get more benifits that the HP simply can't do.
can house better GFX cards
more hard drives
easier to replace parts (Chassis, PSU, etc)
Beefier for emulators & games
You can get a low-end PC at the same R2500 price point everywhere, unlike the HP.
I agree with Zoidberg, it's not viable anymore
And use how much more power?
So what is the consensus regarding a reliable low profile-no-modding-needed graphics card for the N36L?
I want to start using mine for ubuntu+xbmc where it can at least play all the video material presently stuffed into its drives.
Currently mine is mute and using theonboard gfx, 2Gb RAM
Any suggestions would be appreciated
I prefer Nvidia, but if suitable cards aren't readily available anymore an amd/ati won't be the worst
I've looked at the tiny opening in the chassis for the card and a few low profile card brackets, do you need to remove the card bracket to fit it in or did you find the 520 fit without modification?
Just get a 6450
Gotta say i'm very happy with openelec 3.0 besides the occasional audio dropout.
Audio settings are much simpler and stable. The file manager is also improved, multiple background operations. Weather also finally works.
All in all worth the upgrade.

Except DVD menus are broken... Which pretty sucks as most of my media is in .iso format. So now I have to go through the schlep of converting them all to .mkv.
