HP ProLiant MicroServer

The actual cost on these units is R1829.00 excl we used our marketing funds to cost down these units , the rest of the units sold at normal pricing will make up on what was used , we do this all the time with most of the items we cost down, this is very similar to what Retail chain stores do.

Sorry, that doesn't make sense - you sold 1388 units at R1399 , you say cost was R1829; which means your "loss" thus far is R430 per unit. Which equates to 1388 x R430 = R596 480 loss....

So you then say that the remaining units of 382 will make up the difference? Ok. 382x(1899-1829) = R26740

So tell me how R596 480 is greater than R26 740.....

And having said that - if you making such a loss, why come online and try and push sales at the R1399 price before midnight tonight?

I think crazymunky part of your selling team?

After that earlier thread where you refused to swop out a PSU of a few hundred rand; all I can say is I will never do business with esquire. You are simply not trustworthy.

Good guy Esquire fighting the SA prices for it's customers. Has anyone noticed how expensive companies like Rectron have become? Their list price is shocking.

Has anyone noticed that you appear to have no facts?

Esquire has the best pricing on the HP Pro Server to date nobody can deny that, pricing at Axiz and Tarsus has been over R2k when they had stock.

I am not questioning their prices compared to competitors. I am questioning stated facts as to price when there appear to be blatant discrepancies. I have had dialogue with another on-line store when they increased their prices due to the "exchange-rate" - and when they had stock. They agreed and gave me the "old" price. It's simple profiteering otherwise.

And I would still like Esquire to reply how they "absorbed" a R500 000 loss with "marketing funds".

You are the one who is jumping to conclusions that all 1388 units where sold at the promotional pricing. If Esquire has nothing better to do on a month end Saturday perhaps they will provide a proper break down or more feedback.

I am not "jumping" to any conclusion. Simply basing my posts on the facts presented by Esquire. Care to disagree based on facts presented?

Don't make me laugh. Please take your tinfoil hat off, you are making too many assumptions in your posts and it is making you look like an idiot (and maybe an ass too). Esquire is not the first company to subsidize products using a marketing budget. Maybe you got a bad experience with Esquire, doesn't mean you have to drag my name into it.

Listen, I'm not bringing personal insults into this discussion. I have never dealt with Esquire - other than the facts they have posted. Go look above, and tell me where I am wrong. It's simple maths.... (maybe over your head?)

I dont think discussing the profits of a business should be had on a public forum.
If you want to find out more you can pm esquire, whether he reveals anything or not is his choice.
If it were me, I wouldnt tell you anything...

No, I have been looking for a microserver for a few weeks and these prices have not been this low all the time, i know this because I have been looking for the cheapest option since then, now that payday has passed I can buy one. At the time of my previous post, I think they were R1899 excl at Esquire. So there your maths falls over since not all.

We cannot assume: All the microservers up till this point were sold at promotion price. Also he only said that 1770 units came two weeks ago ie that is not the total unit count. for all you know Esquire could've bought all those units to support a huge back-order from a big client. Just stop speculating.

Guys, please - this is a hardware thread, not a "lets ask Esquire to explain their marketing budget" or "explain why your prices were low previously and not anymore" thread.

We were told the date the special would end, what more do you want?

As Esquire have already said, they are simply following one of the common retail strategies of introducing a "loss leader" for a period. Once the period is over the stock reverts to [normally] what was previously the retail price.

It's Esquire's stock and they can sell at whatever price they want - and without the need to justify their decision. Try asking Mercedes or BMW the same question and see what response you get ...

That said, it's your choice to purchase - or not !

Look, if you chaps want to ignore what appears to be some odd pricing statements posted by Esquire then that's fine. If I wan't to question what appear to be inconsistencies in a post then I will - gettit?

But I thought esquire don't market.....

So i managed to get my hands on one of these beauties on friday.

Now to decide what to use it for.

My thinking is a media server type setup. What i would like more info on is how some people have loaded the OS onto an internal flash instead of the HDD.

Can someone please shed some light on this for me ?

Anyone had any problems with the original 250GB HP drive that came with the Microserver?

Mine is having problems being recognised at boot. Lots of clicking. Only gets detected when warmed up enough. There is a firmware fix but the upgrade utility doesn't find the drive!!

Simply plug the flash drive into the internal usb port and then during the OS install select it as the drive to install to.. if in doubt, remove all other disk drives. Here's the how to for OpenElec:

You havn't mentioned which model of HP Microserver you own? It sounds to me like you may have a faulty disk.

Its the N36L with a VB0250EAVER hard drive with very early firmware - HPG0. The detection and performance issues at temperatures below 15 degrees are documented and fixed in firmware HPG7, however I'm suspecting that its not possible with the HP utilities to do an online ROM flash with the embedded SATA controller that is in the microserver. I have HP on the case. Will report back on the outcome. Just wondering if anyone else has had problems with this drive.
