HP ProLiant MicroServer

If you have a iPhone or Android phone why not use the XBMC remote app. Works well if both the server and phone connect to the same wireless lan.

Which new smartphones are coming with IR transmitters? I remember seeing a post about cloning the DSTv remote.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 P3100 as well as the list above. The P3100 comes with the application (Called Peel). You need a working internet connection in order for it to work (Actually to make the initial connection).

Hmmm, apparently I'm completely wrong. Not sure where I read it, but last time I heard your drive is limited to 2.2tb (before you have to partition it). Not sure if that applies to all your drives, or only the boot drive. Regardless, I'm wrong.

GPT sorts all of that out.

Just ordered my N54L

Can anyone recommend a decent Remote that i can buy online. I see the Harmony remotes are not available anymore. Will be using XBMC. I found a lot of remotes for Windows Media Center - but would like to avoid using it if i can.

I also was looking for a remote but its hard to find a pc store in Durban that sells one with a reciever and I wanted the Harmony so I didn't have to use multiple remotes. I solved my remote problem with the following:

Incredible Connection has a Harmony 300i for R250
http://www.incredible.co.za/product/74147/rm-harmony-300i/

Takealot has an infra red receiver + remote for R246
http://www.takealot.com/specials/co...-remote-control-and-infrared-rec-etc,11010593

Takelot has a coupon for R100 off purchases of R250. I just added something else I needed to get the price over R250. So these two combined comes to around the same price as that remote you were looking at.

I should be getting delivery of both by Wednesday

Hi All

Need assistance with a problem I have. Recently bought a HP N54L on special from Esquire, with intent to use as replacement for desktop pc that's out of date. Didn't think this through properly as the monitor I am connecting to doesn't have an HDMI port.
Also the microserver doesn't have a sound card so leaves me in a bit of a jam.

Don't want to shell out on a new monitor, only option is a sound card, but the ones I have seen (Asus - with low profile) are atleast R1k.

Some people have proposed a USB sound card, but don't see much of it available locally.

What options do I have?

Thanks

Asus Xonar DSX should be somewhere in the R500 to R600 range. USB is an option, but something decent will likely only save you a R100 or two, and personally I just don't like having more sticky-outy dongly bits than necessary. Wifi and wireless desktop dongles are already two too many.

The N54l has an onboard gfx card with a standard dsub connector. If you just need it for basic desktop computing then you wouldnt need an addon gfx card.
There should be some fairly inexpensive pci-e sound cards available too. I will check quick and give you some ideas.

What graphics card did you add to it? Would be cheap to go from DVI-I to VGA with an adapter.
btw I am sure the N54L comes with an on-board VGA port...
If you need a cheap USB sound card and aren't to worried about quality check out something like this http://www.extremepcs.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=175

As Rocket-Boy said, the Microserver already has an onboard GFX. It isn't too bad, so give it a try before forking out on a new card.

As for the sound:

I put a similar one in on a Microserver which was to be used as a desktop PC.

Thanks. That does make sense. Probably don't need a separate graphics card - especially with a vga monitor...will check with Esquire if they will accept a return and credit me.
