Isn't there only 2 slots? A PCI-E x1 slot and a PCI-E x16 slot
No PCI slot AFAIK

This would work though

or here D-Link 560T

or one of these in the x16 slot depending on how much you want to spend

Right again! :)

I'll PM Linoman.

D-Link DGE-560T - gigabit network pci-Express (1x) adapter , with 802.1Q VLAN Tagging , 802.3ad Link Aggregation , 9kb jumbo frame size , WoL - includes extra low-profile only for 2U rackmount or slim desktop ( antec minuet , nsk1480 )

Can't believe it's 6 times the price!

Yeah the PCI-E network cards don't come cheap! Haha This one should also work only R 7,384.00 Incl. VAT a steal if you ask me

The only thing to consider is PS3 Media Server having to transcode some files. The Microserver does not have a very powerful CPU and will battle with transcoding.

I have played with PS3 Media server installed on WHS 2011, and the Microserver did surprisingly well, managed 4GB MKV’s and bellow, but bigger files failed.

If you keep with the 1.5-3GB files you should be fine.

Thanks....

If I installed a dedicated card would it help that setup or does it only provide benefit when using the card HDMI port?

I am also torn between installing Win7 Pro and WMS 2011, only thing I will ever run is streaming to PS3 and IOS devices

If you can get a Intel EXPI9301CT that also should work and intel says it ships with a low-profile bracket none of the SA online sites mention the low-profile bracket though. FYI It is an intel desktop card though not a server card.

The HP NC112T is also a low-profile card (according to the HP spec sheet, SA online stores don't mention the extra bracket) and even lists the Microserver in it's spec sheet as being compatible and it's a 'Server adapter' not a desktop one

Wonder if we just get OEM adapters in SA hence the no low-profile bracket on the HP and intel cards I mentioned

Yeah, they must be available somewhere. Not too common though it seems.

Wonder if it would be possible to use the VGA LP bracket supplied with most LP gfx cards in some way.

Otherwise I guess one could just leave the bracket out, like the forumite did with their gfx card.

Has anyone managed to make use of the external (onboard) eSATA port? I bought the eSATA to SATA and power (SATAp) to wire back into the chassis but apparently the eSATA port is unpowered.

Thanks....

Yes, a dedicated graphics card would only help if you were connecting your Microserver to your TV.

The PS3 is very limited in what types of files it can play. To get around this problem, PS3 Media server was introduced, it transcodes (Converts the file) into a file the PS3 can play. This happens on the fly and requires a fairly powerful CPU especially when dealing with large files.

One option you have is when you come across a file that the Microserver is to slow to convert on the fly, copy it to the PS3 via PS3 Media server, it will take longer than the duration of the video, but the copy on the PS3 will be transcoded and watchable. If it is something you are going to watch again, you can copy the version from the PS3 back to your server. So next time you play it, it will not have to transcode. Did this for a couple of my files, worked quite well.

If you have no specific need for anything other than streaming I would stick with Win 7, you will have fewer hassles with drivers etc. although if you went the linux route, you will probably get better performance with PS3 Media server.
