HP ProLiant MicroServer

I'm setting up my second MicroServer as a HTPC (1st 1 as a NAS).

I'm using a Sapphire HD5450 Card, with all the same hardware (no ram upgrade). I downloaded the XBMC live iso, and first installed it on a flash drive, but then installed it on the hard drive.. I'm having a problem playing video's, I select the file, it shows a screenshot of the video in the bottom right corner, once I press enter, it shows "working" for a second, then the screen goes black and then it goes back to the main menu without playing the file..

I tried avi and mkv, same result. Mp3 files play fine.. I'm using a LG 32" FHD tv.

could it be the Graphic card drivers ? if so, how do I go about uprating ?

im still a noob on this stuff but do you have all the latest drivers up and running?

head over to the ATI site and download the latest drivers

Has anyone tried using 3TB drives in the HP Micro Server?

hehe I'm also a noob with Linux, I only know basic commands.. Most of what I've done so far is through guides.

I need to figure out how to update the drivers..

no way Im not going the linux root.. ;) screw that

im gonna pop windows 7 on this thing. i dont have the time to bother learning linux etc etc

why dont you just install windows rather? gonna be easier in the long run if you dont know linux

I used the internal SATA port to add additional hard drive and noticed is extremely slow, anyone else experiencing the same problem?

I might go that route if I don't come right with the linux..

Once it's setup, there won't be much need to work with linux, so linux knowledge is basically needed for setup/troubleshooting etc Most of which can be done with user guides (step by step lol)

I have a Tivo/dd-wrt router/pabx/freenas all running linux, once setup you rarely have to do anything advanced.

If you wanted an out-the-box solution for Linux, you should have gone for an Nvidia card.

HD5450 under Linux requires tweaking in order to get it working properly (and playing 1080p). Guides have been posted, a long way back in this thread though.

I was i a bit of a rush the day I ordered the card, I just went a few pages back and saw that you recommended the card to someone, without checking which OS they were using I went and placed the order..

I'll have to lookup for that post, so far I'm on page 12 of this thread, still a long way to go lol...

I'm no Linux user, but try compiling/downloading drivers via Synaptic Package Manager or similar (depends which Flavour you use IIRC)...

Where can i get an IR Receiver for the Micro Server? I want to use the Logitech Harmony 300i remote with it.

I'll scratch around for the receiver I ended up using....

edit: cant find it. I did use a cheap Isonic thing at one stage but replaced it for some reason (also went for a Logitech remote) and went for an HP receiver thingy
