HP ProLiant MicroServer

I just received my 520GT !

okay, so ive got open elec installed - would i need to re-install it again or would it just plug and play?
how would i know its working (some kind of stats in xbmc) other than seeing blurays play better?

XBMC can show live CPU usage and other stats, check the default keymaps for the shortcut - iirc its "O"

Just paid for mine yesterday from HP shop at 9am, recieved it today at 12pm, 28hour paid to delivery is awesome!, aparently there was an error on the site and got mine for R1300 including delivery, price is now for R1500+ from the site. Looking forward to setting it all up. :)

Depending on which version of openelec you install off their site you may need to reinstall.
As far as I know if it was the generic on you wouldn't have to! Plug it in and check the XBMC stats and try changing the Audio to HDMI out

This thread needs some kind of index on the first page....

Has anyone set up a wiki ?

Think I suggested this on page 40 or so! I offered to summarize the posts but the op didn't get back to me so I lost interest. A wiki would be great, so it could be a group effort to organize the info!

Maybe a google sites or wikispace wiki?

www.hpshop.co.za/m2m mentioned before somewhere in this thread the partner price is then still R1199 excluding delivery so probably around what you paid!

520GT works like a dream - literally zero frame skips on Avatar 1080p Extended mkv.
HDMI Audio works out of the box on OpenELEC, which I have never even been able to achieve on Windows 7 with a much better Card.

All that is wrong is I can't set XBMC to go above 1280x1024 on my TV, which is 1080p capable...i might have to re-install, apparently OpenELEC has a new version out!
(cant really tell the difference quality wise when playing a bluray, but yeah...still wanna fix that)
Menu Click sounds also not working, but I read that the new openELEC fixes that issue.

The HP works like a dream, thanks for all the help guys, really appreciate it!
...now just to get a fancy remote =)

Dont go rc7 yet on openelec, it seems the audio wasn't working for the gt520 over hdmi, maybe its sorted now but a week ago, it wasn't , i went back to rc5 .

There was a post a few pages back.. It had a picture as well. I think it was iSonic or iKonicIT
I bought the one from PC-direct a BB-rc2, it works perfectly with the includes remote, but won't sync with my harmony 650. I have had to just manually teach it from the included remote functions, but it is very minimal. I have since placed an order for an HP usb reciever off of ebay being shipped from hong kong for 12 us dollars. It should be here ina couple weeks.

please keep us posted, whether the receiver works better, as im also gonna get a harmony, and am sitting with the cheapy receiver (i thought it didnt matter)

PS: did you set up the harmony as a microsoft MCE remote in the "database thing"? ive read a lot and apparently that should work?

Yeah, it just doesn't work with any commands. You can tell because when you point it at the receiver it just quickly blinks where it is a longer "blink" when it is used correctly. I tried about 5 or 6 options for devices and none of them would recieve any commands at all.

For the people pming about the the card I got:
I got the MSI 520GT - the msi comes with the LP brackets you need for the HP MS. It fits perfectly.

It has a fan though, but doesnt make too much noise.
It has an hdmi and dvi port, and the dvi port will also carry sound for you, if you use an dvi-to-hmdi cable.

The cheapest place I found that has it, is Rampage gaming, at R499 or something. Delivery was R50.
It took about a week for the package to arrive, but never the less.

Hope that clears everything.
Im an ati fanboi but this card is all you need if you want a sollution that works without fiddeling too much.

Haha, got my 5tb of Hdds, installed, now ordering graphics and ram, running enterpise 64x like a baws :) just using it as a file hosting server until it can run XBMC or actually play videos without lag lol. Only thing that needs sollution is the whole remote issue as once thats up and running, ill never leave the bed again :D

just to be clear, what are the advantages of using openelec over windows 7

can you setup sickbeard and couchpotato on this openelec. my understanding is that is simply a basic linux OS designed specifically for running XBMC

I need to get a remote... having a keyboard connected with a mouse is a pain in the arse :(
