HP ProLiant MicroServer

@ABCpt: How does the amount of RAM influence the graphics? I thought its only for games and such that store textures. Then again, I don't think the CPU is all that great for gaming. Please explain how the memory on a graphics card is used. For something like XMBC, will it really make a difference if you have 512MB or 2GB?
I might be wrong, but I would imagine more RAM on the graphics card would help with BIG mkv movies.

I'm sure if you Google around a little you'll find tons of info on FreeNAS.

As for the Wiki, I plan to do several tutorials on it, installing several operating systems and writing some tuts. I'm finished with varsity for the year so I have plenty of time :p

include a remotes section.... by the end of the weekend Im gonna be a pro on remotes! talk about being thrown into the deep end and a seriously steep learning curve :erm:

picking up a harmony 700 this afternoon and sending the 300 someone elses direction. (someone without a HTPC, that they can just use for their TV/DVD/DSTV or w/e)

openelec is a stripped down version of linux... Made specifically for Home entertainment centres (htpc)..

yup, I get that... Im just saying that you wont be able to follow a traditional ubuntu guide, if you using openelec

not so?

Well once you have your 700, give me the info on both the 300 and 700 with a short comparison and I'll lay it out nicely in the wiki.

Afrihost is useless, I cannot even access the cpanel anymore. I await their response.

I think this is one of the reasons you'd want to host with someone like Hetzner - their ~99.9% uptime.

It seems its not based on debian; however, those guides should still give you enough information to work out the distro-specific commands necessary to perform the same functions.

Openelec has sabnzbd as a standard add-on, but not sickbeard and not sure how you would install it.

Seems the wiki is working again and performance now is a lot better. I have no idea what Afrihost were up to earlier, but seems to be okay for now.

I will write up a step-by-step guide for my setup also once I get time. It would be very useful for newbies to just get hardware x, y and z and then follow the guide - then they will know it will work in that configuration.

Example: MicroServer + 2GB DD3 1333Mhz Kingston ValueRam + Point Of View G210 GPU + Compro K300 Remote + Ubuntu 10.04 + Sickbeard + SABnzbd + Couchpotato + Headphones + NoIP + ssh + vsftp

I can give instructions to get this exact setup working with HDMI audio and the works. Gonna take some time :)

dude im happy to help with this. I will work on the remote section, as its a huge grey area. some people's setups just work, and others dont. gonna look smart once its all done

Great stuff. I will spend this weekend loading various OS's onto the little beast and write some stuff up on it! At least then people who have stuff to write about those OS's can just add it as a sub-section of what i've started.

Cool, hand the pseudoTV section to me as thats what im clued up about most
Just pm when its ready and tell me where to add.

Haha, i see you guys are using my hp icon on the wiki :)

Ill work on creating a complete guide to pseudotv and upload it on monday.

This wiki is gonna be awesome!

Agreed! :)

I'm having so much fun already haha

What else needs to be added to the Graphics cards page? I will update specs of all the cards over the weekend

send me the page you copying the specs from and I can do that for you so long

my new life mission: to figure out the remote story

:)

I'm not copying haha, I'm reading them off the linked pages I have for each of the GPUs (already put the correct links into each of the respective card's URL section), then putting the specs into the relative template I have already made for each of the sections.

In other news, it seems the little HP can support a maximum of 16TB of storage space.

Someone has put a 8-port SAS controller card into the MS and then put a bay with 4 x 2.5" HDDs into the 5.25" bay.
This means:
4 x 1TB 2.5" HDDs
4 x 3TB 3.5" HDDs

For a total of a whopping 16TB internal space!
