I was wondering what kinda things i could use a Slate or IPad for and thought wouldn't these make sweet home automation or entertainment controllers. I would lean towards the Slate for such things since it has windows on board. What would you like as an app?

With iPad

Crestron is one of the biggest names behind home automation. They've already released an iPhone app, allowing you to control your "AV systems, lighting, shades, room temperatures and more" from your phone. Now that app is coming to the iPad.

Just like with the iPhone version, iPad users will be able to interact with their Crestron systems over Wi-Fi, 3G and Edge. Here's what the interface loos like on the iPhone (the iPad version should be identical).

There should be one for Windows7.

The best place to know about the iPad is Gizmodo.com

They are running a maraton of reviewing all apps for iPad. Soon all iPhone OS apps will be mirrored onto windows7.

HP Slate
Advantages

SD/SDHC/SDXC (up to 128 GB)
1 USB 2.0 port
HDMI out
VGA foward facing Camera/3 MP backward Camera
Pen/Stylus

Disadvantage
8.9" Screen
5 hr Battery Life

WINDOWS 7 support can be a disadvantage or an advantage. 16:9 ratio is good for video playback but not so for applications especially when the accelerometer starting to kick in, apps will either be distorted or programmers will have to program for both portrait and landscape layout.

The iPad uses a polished glass, HP has not disclosed what it used for protecting the LCD surface, but I'm quite sure that it is not glass otherwise the Slate's weight would have shot up. You can't scratch glass with your nails but you can scratch plastic.
