I would like to know what my options would be if i purchase an mac laptop.... i have a PC at the moment with an HSDPA mtn PC card.... what do i do?

Thanks for any help.

with no pcmcia slot for the mac it doesnt look like there are many options. i've the same problem as you and have had to resort to using my mobile through bluetooth. you could try some of the usb modems with a data card although they are expensive and require you to sign a lengthly 2yr contract.

best bang for buck i rekon in this area is actually virgin mobile v0 account. data rates are 50c/MB (other service providers will only give you this rate with big bundles which require a lengthly contract) and you can just buy more airtime if you need. you obviously need a mobile phone that supports GRPS/EDGE or 3G - then it depends on what area you are in and what data rates are supported by the towers.

Hi
I've just bought a Sierra Aircard 850 through Have2Have.co.za. It's pricey at around R3800! The reason I bought it is it has a nifty external antenna connection which I need for my Yagi booster. It's also got a reputation for keeping a signal really well.
I found it tricky to get software for my mac - a lot of card manufacturers don't supply mac drivers. I had to purchase something called Launch2net (www.novamedia.de) which works really well. There are only two companies that make drivers for this particular card.
There are probably cheaper cards around, but I can't comment on Mac compatibility. Just don't believe anyone who's trying to sell you a card if they say "I'm sure there are Mac drivers" - find out for sure first, and see if you're going to have to pay for it. Also be sure that you look for drivers for the exact model you're purchasing - for example drivers for an aircard 850 are not the same as an 860 - often it's the difference between US and Europe/Africa models, which is vital.

Good luck.
