Hi folks

I have not been following the forums lately, so this issue may have been discussed in depth. After I have been connected for a while (30 mins or so) it often happens that the flow of data simply stops. It does not disconnect, it simply stops functioning… Anybody else?

Regards,

RPM

Hi RPM

Have been having the same problem for a while now. It was discussed in the forum, but I do not think any reasons or solutions were given.

I experienced it both in CT and JHB.

I am a new on HSDPA - 1 week new. Haven't experienced this problem yet.
Thus far I am impressed, 3 of us were playing an MMORPG last night in HoutBay on one HSDPA connection, with Linksys router.
The gaming experience were like ADSL. Very

Just didn't like the fact that the router / data card automatically stepped down to GPRS.
When we switched / forced it to HSDPA, no problems.
Did about 30MB in 2.5 hours all together. No lag, low latency :p

Last night's experience is way better than the GPRS performance of late :D

I wll be looking out for this 'ongoing problem' though...

Yep, this has been an ongoing problem reported by forumites - going back to April, and it seems to happen randomly just about anywhere...:(

v3g?

We can probably consider two different scenarios.

1) A nationwide problem with a fair amount of occurrences, affecting a large number of people - We've had this now twice and I think rpm was in one of those windows. Both scenarios were fixed though.

2) Sporadic occurrences - This will always be ongoing as the actual cause need to be determined and resolved on a case by case basis. RF comms is, by nature, complex and we find various causes with similar symptoms (you can't work!)

Most of the current problems seem to sit under 2. When we get a '1' this forum lights up like a Christmas tree...

Hi,

I went to vodaworld today to have my firmware upgraded (Merlin U740). At last im getting the HSDPA LED to come on (the orange one). The connection seems slightly better. But overall im not really impressed. You might want to give it a try though if you have the same card.

On second thought, stay away from the firmware. My connection is quite shyte now. I think ive been had once again by the vodacom guys. Nice going guys, you sure saw me coming (again).

My suggestion is that Vodacom should kick a bunch of techies off of Vodacom's intranet & force them to use HSDPA, when they experience #2s the common #2 problem will be solved in no time at all - seriaas :D.

Already the case, most of engineering, technical and management work only on HSDPA.

Ok  as a matter of interest, which make of data card are they mostly using?

It varies, they get their card via the same process as everyone else, so it'll be whatever is in stock at the time. Probably Option mostly, as they came out first.

(Know what you're thinking....:))

I have been getting many disconnects per day. Sometime there are like 5 per minute
They are propper disconnects, not downlink loss. Then I get error 619 every time I try to reconnect :(

On a Merlin U630.

[Edit]
This has only been since Thursday, about 12 noon.
