So the HTC 8x seems to be a very compelling phone , very well priced, excellent hardware and the brand new wp8, anyone know when it will be out for vodacom and if it will retain its good price here?

HTC WP8 devices are very meh.

Ripp offs of their Android cousins, nothing innovative, their new design is not new. You get what you pay for I guess.

But, don't mind me. I'm a staunch Nokia fan. I am writing this message with a Nokia and 7 out of all 10 mobile phones I owned in my life were Nokias, which I had good experiences with. My next will be a Nokia.

HTC WP 8X is great, but meh.

Your phone is now available to order online.

It seems the sub R400/mth prices are where the sweet spot is for SA retailers/networks.

I hope the Lumia 920 will be available at a similar price with the option of a pay in, otherwise I will wait 6mths to a year before I get it.

Anybody got an 8X yet? I'm seriously thinking about this. Paul Thurrott reckons it's the WP8 device to get. Not just on specs, but because it's plain beautiful. He says it's the most beautiful handset ever released. Eva. On any platform.

I disagree for me the 8x is totally different to all of their android phones, but I currently got the lumia then fell in love. The 8x to me looks amazing but I love Nokias apps on the windowsphone store, so will prob be sticking with a Nokia.

does anyone know if this phone is available yet? i see it advertised, but no one seems to have stock and none of the shops have any idea when it will actually arrive.

Just got the phone today. Very nice design only thing I don't like is the space on top of and below the screen. Also so far i cant find the data sense app, anyone know where to look?

I can't find any stores with stock.

Stevovo, is the 8x that vodacom selling the LTE version? Reading on engadget, it seems there are two versions, an LTE version and a hspa+ version.

Its not the lte version. They didn't have stock but the warehouse does so they just had to order it. Took about one and a half days.

Has anyone on here got one and managed to run it through it's paces? I'm interested to find out how the phone is faring as well as their impressions on Win Pho 8.

I've had mine for a week. Very nice phone. Beautiful to touch and the screen is great, buttons are a bit too flush, but you get used to it. Battery life so / so. What you'd expect from a smart phone. I have locations, bluetooth, etc running and it lasts a full day. My only gripe so far are the apps. Some of them work beautifully and the live tiles are really neat. CNN, xbox integration, kindle, music, people hub, evernote, skype, office 2013 all work really great. But some of the games, apps etc haven't been updated for the larger screen so there's slight pixelation or letterboxing on some of them. The Facebook app for WP8 is TERRIBLE. So buggy. But the facebook integration with the actual phone is brilliant, so you don't really need it. Internet Explorer is an okay browser but I'd really like to see Chrome. Maps app works fine, great that you can download maps for offline use. No turn by turn yet unfortunately unless you get the Lumia 920.

One other consideration for me was that I've switched from iOS so anyone who was messaging me using iMessage is still sending messages to that device. I suppose I can switch off iMessage on all my devices (iMac, iPad, iPhone etc) but then I kind of like being able to message off my iPad sometimes. But that's an iOS thing really.

Something else that I'm really appreciating is that apps can have access to the lockscreen, so I can set Facebook to show off photos, or have CNN display a photo and a top news story, or have Bing update with a new wallpaper every day. Really nice.

So overall, great phone and OS. Still torn between this and my iPhone 4s.

Great feedback on the HTC 8X, seems like a promising phone and I'm starting to think that Microsoft have finally brought us a decent operating system, kudos to Windows Phone 8 it seems?

I also like the interesting flashy colours of the Windows Phone 8 based phones, makes the Galaxy S3 and the iPhone 5 already look out dated.
