HTC DESIRE HD

DHD vs SGS. You beat me to it. Was just about to cut 'n paste. :)

Damn.

I shouldn't have read that. 40 grams lighter and thinner with a better screen and as good a proc makes a compelling argument. add to that the fact that i can walk to a shop and get one during lunchtime?

noooo!!!!! hold fast! you know want a DHD!

Interesting, although truth be told they pick the SGS for the same reasons that I'm not quite sure I'd swap my Desire for a DHD now that the hype's worn off a bit. And, for various reasons, I'd still opt for an original Desire over an SGS every time.

I'm starting to think, ney... believe, that my Desire might actually last my whole contract term. :p

after a bit of pondering, i've come to the realization - what the hell am i thinking? HTC Sense vs TouchWiz? what a total no-brainer.

There is still hope

Sent Leaf an email this morning and got the following response within minutes:

"Thank you for the mail and interest in the HTC product range. The HTC Desire HD will available at the MTN outlets before the close of this month, however the Desire Z will not be available at this stage with in the MTN Channel."

Sense is just miles ahead of anything else & it's fantastic on the Desire HD & Z, so many options for customization, etc. Just makes your phone that bit more special.

At this very moment I honestly don't know what to think anymore.

If you look at the Desire HD specs on GSMArena, spec wise it's one of the top phones on the market right now (well, hopefully soon in SA :) ).

However, now it turns out that the display on the Desire HD is just LCD (I see GSMArena has updated the display specs for it), but the one on the Desire Z is actually a S-LCD screen - and the difference is obvious in the video link I posted earlier.

The CPU on the Desire HD is 1Ghz, while 800Mhz on the Z .... so me is thinking I might get a bit more juice out of the Desire Z's battery, which is a 1300 mAh, compared to the HD's 1230 mAh. The only reason I can think of as to why HTC decided on a smaller battery for the HD must be that they couldn't fit in a bigger one, or thought it would be easier on the juice with a plain LCD screen.

Performance wise, I looked at a Qualcomm benchmark of the Desire Z & the end result was a frame rate of 57.6, against 58.2 of the Desire HD.

What do you think?

i dunno man. after my sex1, i'm kinda off qwerty sliders. the z is bit of a brick, and what do you really gain? a slightly better but rather smaller screen? and *possibly* some battery time?

i'd rather get a straight desire then. amoled screen (i think we get the amoled ones here) and much less "bricky"

The Desire is always a good choice, but just feels old to me now. Maybe see the year out with my iPhone 3G & wait for the dual core phones coming in Feb 2011?

Maybe, just maybe, HTC can give us a 4.3 AMOLED screen with a dual core cpu, 1GB RAM & an atomic battery that lasts 5 years in 2011?

if that happens i'm going to be seriously peeved that I went for the DHD!

Dual core snapdragons(23nm) should make the rounds soon. with the adreno 300 no less

if the DHD had a amoled/s-lcd it would be a no brainer imo.

but im still getting a DHD :P

almost there boyz. next week could be it for a few lucky people. Wonder how may Leaf brought in???

Just went past Lab88 At Vodaworld, the guy there says next week Mon/Tues and should be priced between 6 and 7k

He didn't seem convincing, but I really hope he is right.

that's a big negative from my side. the phone is already too big & heavy. i'm not gonna make it worse by putting something else in my damn pocket. and i SHALL NOT WEAR A MAN PURSE! i just won't.

Z = chunky, heavier, smaller screen, slower cpu, possible week/faulty kbd hinges... dunno man, still think the DHD wins (warts and all).

Would you maybe consider a fanny pack ;)

Seriously, just get a car charger and you can charge it from your Laptop/PC.
