HTC DESIRE HD

Ah, thanks for the clarification, as I have a Visa Electron, that got me all excited, alas, I shall have to make due with being a pleb who cant buy market stuff yet :P

Terminolgy confusion here. Some banks refer to Visa / Mastercards issued on accounts with no credit facility as a debit card, yet they still work on the conventional credit card system. Then there's the Visa Electron or Mastercard Maestro type debit card. These cards don't have expiry dates, CVV etc but work with a PIN number. Don't think you'll be able to use the Electron / Maestro system to buy online though.

My debit card is a Visa electron and does have an expire & CVS number. So I guess it depends on your bank.

Ok, after living with Gingerbread on my phone for a while now, my observations :

The good

1. Increased battery life - my phone now easily lasts a day and a half/two days
2. Playback of avi movies are now silky smooth! (very nice)
3. Webkit browser is faster when rendering full web pages (I dont do the mobile web site thing)
4. GPS seems to lock faster, but haven't tested it in a lot of different areas

The not so good

1. The new "grid" menu scrolling, which makes it neccessary to use both hands when trying to reach an icon in the top left/right corner
2. Music gets sorted into different folders.....I might try again to see if I can copy all my favorite songs into one folder, without the music app starting to sort it into different folders again
3. Screen bug. If you have set your phone's display to only go off when you push the power button at top, and you get an incoming call, the screen will stay on forever.

Feel free to add own experiences.

1. Personally I don't like sense so I use SPB 3D Shell, so I don't have the grid view in my application list.
2. I don't have that problem but I guess its because I use cubed as my media player.
3. I don't force my screen to stay on so don't have this but have you tried running juicedefender, it might sort it out for you.

Can anyone tell me whether the HTC Desire HD is still available on the TopUp 100 contract at MTN for 250ish rand?

I know that it was on special during the month of May but I'm unable to upgrade until the end of this month.

I've just realised that my wifi is useless on my DHD. I'm sitting at my parents house for Sunday lunch and my sis and dad both have iPhones. They pick up the neighbours wifi with 2 bars. I don't get anything unless I move right next to the house.

Anyone else also realise the wifi sucks on the DHD?

I'm using wifi a lot and have found that reception is good inside a house, but as soon as you go outside, it dies.

I would not know, only time I use WiFi on my DHD is when I am in close to my router or at the local Coffee shop, again close to the router, for the rest of the time I use 3G as my phone has a healthy 5 Gig a month its welcome to eat.

I think I'm going to buy a portable 3G router. I can use it for my laptop, Asus transformer, phone etc. Should sort that problem out aand ill only need one data contract. Any recommendations?

Don't want to derail the discussion but you all seem to be a tech savvy lot.

Never mind. I found a nice one.

Damn, that's a lot of YouTube videos.

Well in all honesty I run everything from Skype to local weather with autosync on and not really worried about running out.

I dont want to be afraid to "USE" my phone. I do end up creating a WiFi hotspot at the end of the month just to make use of the 1-3 gig that is left before roll over.

Oh and when its cold at night I play from Multiplayer Modern combat to Racing games on the phone while in bed.

hehe....I do exactly the same....but maybe a bit more modest. Normally load a 2GB data bundle on it and do whatever I like with my phone, when I feel like it.

Surfing the web, browsing the app market, downloading stuff....but the biggest culprit is music videos on YouTube....in high definition. ;)

Last 2 nights I been playing Rainbow six co-op with some of my friends in NZ and Canada

CellC? How's the latency on the game?

In PE so getting around 200+ ms, its not to bad for co-op, on Deathmatch I have to be more carefull as they have the lead, still smoke plenty of people. Also the times I play its not to bad about 2/3 till 5 in the morning

Edit: just joined a match now to see latency, 430 ms for this time of the night.
