I ordered the SE x10 like more than a month ago with MTN and they still don't have stock.

Is the HTC as good as the X10 or will I be making a mistake if I take the HTC instead of waiting for the X10

I have played with 2 of my colleague's X10, still prefers Desire.

Yes, X10 has the slightly higher resolution on screen and Cam, but Android and any smart phone is about how much more fun you will have to re-discover your device after every new ROM and every piece of new program you installed. And I can tell you HTC based devices will have a much bigger follower and more frequent quality updates compared to any other brand (Sony Ericsson, Samsung, Moto.etc).

Unless the camera is important to you I'd recommend the HTC. Maybe the X10 has better music quality though? If sound quality is important to you then you might not be happy with the HTC.

there now you not offending my htc too much

HTC Desire has a REALLY sucky loudspeaker, and a really sucky way of syncing your Outlook Contacts & Calendar to your phone, which isn't 100% reliable. Syncing of Outlook Tasks is impossible. The HTC Desire does not understand what a Task is. The HTC Desire also doesn't have anything even remotely close to Nokia PC Suite. You cannot sync your phone over Bluetooth, or manage your contacts directly (you have to do it by syncing with Outlook).

The camera quality is OK. At 5MP, you'd expect it to perform better than the 2.5 year old Nokia N95 5MP camera, but it doesn't, it performs quite a bit worse. But then again HTCs are not know for their cameras, but rather the user interfaces and software.

Other than that, it's a really awesome phone. Lots of free and awesome paid-for software available. If you can live with the shi77y loudspeaker and below average camera, I'd go for it, as the other problems can/should be fixed at a later stage with firmware updates.

Or you can just to wait for a better phone to come out... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait....

you get the point..

Thanks for all the replies. I took the HTC cause MTN said they do not have a ETA on new stock and I waited like a month and a half. So I took the HTC cause my current phone is quite old and had seen better days.

you wont regret! :)

Both are fantastic devices,it simply comes down to what you realy want and need. For me personaly i simply couldnt bring myself to liking the Desires design, camera or that SenseUI. I tried and tried but each time i saw an X10 i had this warm fuzzy feeling, lol, and i was prepared to deal with SEs longer update schedule, the way i see it, Desire, X10, Galaxy S, Droid X and Evo wont be that "obsolete" for the next 20months,as Android growth will slow down. Hardware wise they are future proof and are the top devices on the market, so you cant go wrong with any of them. Their successors wont be that much better than them, ARM A8-Cortex will be with us at the top for a while. Atleast thats my summary of it all,i maybe wrong.

The nice thing about any Android phone, especially one as big and common as the Desire is, if you don't like it, surely someone else don't like it as well, and will work around it. I haven't used SenseUI for ages, and I won't go back to it. I installed Launcher Pro Beta on my Desire, and it kicks ass:-)

Funny thing is im using ADW Launcher on my X10,so i have no idea what i was smoking when i wrote that part, but my point was that i generaly didnt like the Desire, its a sweet device no doubt but when i cant stand the design of something i need to look at multiple times a day then its a no go.

Only downside to the X10 is it's still on 1.6. As soon as it catches up and get's Froyo I think it's superior. I prefer LCD over AMOLED for outdoor readability.

i really dont think we will see an X10 upgrade soon... their smartphone division is in so much !@!@#

Why did i read something about you desiring sex in the title?

Moving on. I would got for the Desire.

Whahahaha!

Anyway, its preference based, have played with both and for my needs, the HTC is better suited. Some people like certain stuff and some people like certain other stuff, its entirely up to you... Both phones are excellent choices.

We will,SE even moved it to an earlier date, and now apparently Orange in Spain expect the update on 15Aug, all we know is that the update is around the corner as there are a lot of 2.1 testers posting vids, and even one at XDA answering our questions, and also that its been in testing for the past 2months or so,so its nearly here.

At least the difference between 2.2 and 2.1 isn't as big as the difference between 2.1 and 1.6. Hopefully SE picks up their game in time for gingerbread, else I think there are going to be a lot of unhappy customers.

Getting my Desire tommorow. Its has already been dispatched by MTN Direct. they said it should be delivered tomorrow. Can't wait!
